Get ready for a whole new modus operandi for shopping, courtesy of a new fashion Web site: Moda Operandi. Founded by Vogue contributing editor Lauren Santo Domingo and entrepreneur Aslaug Magnusdottir, the site will allow shoppers to preorder pieces directly from the runway—which means, the founders hope, more editorial and experimental pieces reaching consumers’ hands. Thakoon, Proenza Schouler, Prabal Gurung, Alexander Wang, and Giambattista Valli are all among the designers who’ve pledged to make select pieces available for orders on the site within 48 hours of their runway shows. Hollywood newcomer Rooney Mara is the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, but there’s some dispute over where she’ll be flaunting it. Mara is said to have been first choice for an upcoming Vanity Fair cover, but disputes over who would shoot it have shunted her to W. Meanwhile, VF is busy picking stars for its upcoming “Young Hollywood” cover. Nothing’s confirmed, but Natalie Portman (left), James Franco, Ryan Reynolds, Rashida Jones, and Paula Patton have all been mentioned, as has Noomi Rapace, the Swedish actress who starred in the original film version of Dragon Tattoo. Whither the new, expanded McQ collection? According to designer Pina Ferlisi, bags, shoes, and jewelry, as well as limited runs on select items. “There’s a lot of disposable fashion around, and McQ will certainly not feel like that—it will be precious,” she told British Vogue. [Vogue U.K.]
