Hedi Slimane wants to be perfectly clear: He had nothing -- rien du tout, he says! -- to do with the latest YSL Beauté fragrance, Black Opium: not with the fragrance, the creative direction of the ads, the model selection, nothing.

Taking to Twitter (where else?), Saint Laurent released the following statement on his behalf:

It's perhaps not surprising that the man who took "Yves" out of the label's name would take pains to distance himself from another component of the business which has little to do with him.  Like most luxury houses, the brand's beauty business is a licensing agreement with another company (in this case, the L'Oréal Group).

Still, it's understandable that the press might think Slimane was involved, as the ad campaign stars Edie Campbell, a favorite of Slimane and a model who has featured in past Saint Laurent ad campaigns. The fragrance, by the way, will be available in the U.S. in 2015.
