A.P.C.'s salon-style presentations are a Paris Fashion Week highlight, thanks to founder Jean Touitou's endless string of oh-so-wise one-liners. This season, Touitou spoke about moving beyond simplicity into the sublime. "Fashion is born from the need for change," he said. "My work has always been about simplicity. But after hanging out with hip hop artists, I decided not to be so humble anymore." (Thanks for that, Kanye.) For spring, the designer showed a lineup of refined trenches, railroad-stripe denim and dusty-colored pleated skirts, jumpsuits and blouses that were quite sexy-- but never crass. These clothes -- still utilitarian in their function -- had a polish that elevated the overall look. Sublime indeed. -- Lauren Sherman
