Sword of Asumi has more lingerie than Victoria's Secret - TechnologyTell:

sword of asumi

It isn’t often that we get a new visual novel, so one does come about, everyone able is going to seize the opportunity to try something new. At first glance, Sword of Asumi seems like it has something for everyone. The alternative reality plot is filled with intrigue, as an assassin attends a school for samurai in hopes of finding a rebel known as Raven and getting a chance to be a Justicar. There are heterosexual and homosexual romance options, providing even more opportunity for multiple gamers to find an interest. It seems like a best of both worlds situation.

Except Sword of Asumi takes every opportunity to show the heroine, Asumi, in her undies. I’m 100% serious. Every in-game day, it takes the time to show this young woman, one capable enough to be an assassin and considered for a position as a Justicar, in a vast array of panties. I had to double check the product description to make sure she wasn’t a Victoria’s Secret model in disguise, because 30 minutes in, Asumi dons the kinds of underwear no woman would ever wear to go about her everyday business, let alone engage in assassination attempts and physical activity. Seriously, none of the undergarments she sports offers any kind of support.

I’m fine with fanservice. You have to expect it in certain kinds of games. I even enjoyed Senran Kagura Burst. I get it, when it makes sense. With Sword of Asumi, it doesn’t. It feels like the developer, AJTilley.com, didn’t have enough faith in their own product and its story to believe the characters and tale to capture players’ attention, and are relying on lingerie-a-day to keep players coming back.

It’s not that I’m offended by it either. Rather, the “fashion show” of Sword of Asumi is so random and continuous that it ceases to be objectionable. Instead, it’s hilarious. There are scenes where characters wear the same horrified or embarassed expression long after the emotion has passed, yet Asumi manages to have different, matching bra and panty sets for every day of the week.

Keep it in mind, if you’re thinking about picking up Sword of Asumi, and keep tuned to Technology Tell’s Gaming Channel for our review of the title later this week.
