Watch Passion Pit's Michael Angelakos Discuss Bipolar Disorder in PSA:

Passion Pit's lead singer Michael Angelakos is speaking out again about his struggles with bipolar disorder, and this time it's for Bring Change 2 Mind and Project 375's joint PSA campaign #StrongerThanStigma. Alongside actor Wayne Brady, hockey player Ben Scrivens and football player Brandon Marshall, Angelakos has filmed a short video detailing how being honest with himself about his mental illness has helped him better his life.

The campaign is aimed at men suffering from mental illness, encouraging the normalizing of open dialogue on mental health. According to a statement released by Bring Change 2 Mind, actor Glenn Close's nonprofit that works to distribute public education on mental health, suicide rates among men are three to four times higher than that of women.

"Once I started really just accepting my mental condition, it stung for a little bit and then everything improved," said Angelakos in the PSA (released via Stereogum). The singer had been diagnosed as bipolar at 18 and publicly revealed his condition when his band had to cancel tour dates in 2012 while he worked on improving his health following the release of their second full-length LP Gossamer.

Angelakos' clip also highlights personal triumphs he's been able to accomplish thanks to his choice to seek treatment, including marriage and the ability to make music with his band. "People don't understand that it's not just debilitating; it's all-encompassing," the singer told Rolling Stone in 2012. "It's something you have to work on your entire life."

In December, Passion Pit began dropping hints that a new album may be on the horizon. Angelakos released a demo via SoundCloud of a song called "Somewhere" while the band's Facebook page posted a photo of a whiteboard with blacked-out song titles, captioned "Passion Pit 2015." The tentative project would be the first full-length release since Gossamer.
