New York Fashion Week Is Moving to Two New Locations:

After months of searching, IMG has settled on not one, but two new locations for New York Fashion Week: Skylight at Moynihan Station at 360 West 33rd Street in Midtown, and Skylight Clarkson Square at 550 Washington Street in SoHo.

IMG has been scouting for a new location since December, when the Supreme Court of the State of New York County ruled that Lincoln Center -- the home of NYFW since 2010 -- could no longer be used as a show site because it violates its use as a public park.

Neither of the new locations will be new to fashion week attendees. Moynihan Station, which houses two raw show spaces and one event space, has hosted the likes of Rag & Bone, Prabal Gurung and 3.1 Phillip Lim. Ralph Lauren has shown at Clarkson Square, which houses two raw show spaces, for the past two seasons. Both venues are part of Skylight Group, a company that identifies unusual spaces and converts them into cool event venues.

While it might seem inconvenient to have two venues instead of one, the move recognizes the fact that NYFW venues are already spread throughout the city, as many designers choose to show off-site, as they will likely continue to do. Right in between the two venues is Milk Studios, home to Made Fashion Week, which IMG recently acquired.

IMG says the venues were secured with help from Mayor Bill De Blasio, and that a number of designers, show producers and journalists were part of the decision-making process. The press release also mentions, intriguingly, that there will be a "more carefully curated designer schedule" this time around. That particular responsibility falls to the CFDA.

While IMG did not specify the length of its contracts with the Skylight locations, it's unlikely they'll be there for more than a few years. For one, Moynihan Station is in the process of being converted into an Amtrak hub. Second, as far as we're aware, plans are still underway to relocate NYFW to the Hudson Yards once its event space, the Culture Shed, is operational in 2017.

The spring 2016 shows will take place from September 10-17, 2015.
