If based only on the widespread success of her "1989 Secret Sessions," Taylor Swift's hostessing prowess simply cannot be matched. The fashion industry powers that be seem to have recognized the 25-year-old pop star's party-throwing abilities, because on May 2, Swift will co-chair the 2016 Met Gala. A Vogue representative confirmed the news to Fashionista on Tuesday afternoon, and according to Vogue.com, the theme for next year's event, and the Costume Institute exhibition it celebrates, will be "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology." It will focus on "the dichotomy between handmade haute couture and machine-made fashion" — a relationship that remains particularly relevant in today's burgeoning fast fashion era.

The exhibit will display more than 100 pieces of couture and ready-to-wear items, and will juxtapose more classical techniques like embroidery and lacework with newer technologies such as laser cutting and thermo shaping. The show will also feature a number of "in process" workshops, including one in which a 3-D printer will be on display to guests while in use.

Swift will co-chair the Gala alongside Idris Elba, Anna Wintour and Apple's Chief Design Officer Jonathan Ive, with Nicolas Ghesquière, Karl Lagerfeld and Miuccia Prada acting as honorary event chairs.

A representative for the Metropolitan Museum of Art could not immediately be reached for comment.
