We can't say for sure that Diane Kruger took inspiration from James Turrell's light projections when getting dressed for LACMA's Art+Film Gala honoring the artist on Saturday, but her Monique Lhuillier two-toned bandeau top and pants certainly made us think about the rich, solid blue lights Turrell uses in his work.

The actress, who has said in the past that she doesn't work with a stylist, stood out on Gucci-dominated red carpet filled with Alessandro Michele's ornate, vintage-inspired dresses. (Gucci was one of the evening's hosts.) In a sea of lace and pussy bows, Kruger was refreshingly sleek and modern — which are not words usually employed to describe Lhuillier's soft, feminine designs. Leave it to Kruger to buck trends and make us think differently about a designer, all in one night.

Kruger complemented the dramatic swaths of shiny blue fabric with simple hair and makeup — a loose, low ponytail and a bold lip to match her fuschia clutch and nail polish. She accented the strapless neckline with an unusual diamond stranded necklace. We've seen Kruger wear pants and jumpsuits to all kinds of events over the years, from the Venice Film Festival to an "Inglourious Basterds" premiere, but this might be the most glamorous dress alternative she's tried yet.

Kruger wasn't the only standout at the yearly gala. Michele dressed a bevy of women in Gucci — including the boss's wife, Salma Hayek, model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and "Brooklyn" star Saoirse Ronan — showing that he has something for every age and body type. Pink was the evening's most popular color choice, as were all matter of bows and brooch accents. Michele himself arrived in a custom black, green and rose hydrangea jacquard tuxedo.

Note: An earlier version of this article stated that Kruger's outfit was a one-piece jumpsuit. In fact, it is made of two separate pieces.
