At first glance, it seems as if the cast of the spring 2016 Versace campaign — Gigi Hadid, Natasha Poly, Raquel Zimmermann and some very beefy shirtless men (one of which is martial arts expert Lukasz Grabowski) — are lounging in the snow in their summer wares, which would certainly make for an odd location choice for the season's ads. But Artistic Director Donatella Versace got us good, as the shoot was actually staged in the California salt flats, providing a pristine backdrop for the boldly colored and patterned spring collection.

Shot by Steven Klein, the campaign is meant to capture a feeling of empowerment — which came across in Versace's latest utilitarian (and at times military-inspired) offering — as well as a theme of individuality, since each Versace woman has her "own identity and proud self-belief," the brand says. Interestingly enough, the three blonde models are made up to look exactly alike, as if members of a very chic — and yes, very white — squad. Watch out Olivier Rousteing, Donatella's girls are coming for your #BalmainArmy.
