After hosting its resort 2016 show in Palm Springs last May, Louis Vuitton is heading to Rio de Janeiro to show its resort 2017 collection on May 28.

For luxury brands, far-flung destinations are becoming de rigeur for mid-season collection shows. In November, Public School showed its first pre-fall collection in Dubai, marking the New York label's international debut. Dior has shown its mid-season collections in Brooklyn and just outside of Cannes, while Gucci, having shown its resort 2016 collection in New York, plans to present its next collection in London. (Max Mara chose London for its resort 2016 showing, too.) Chanel, which kicked off the trend, has shown everywhere from Miami to Seoul to Rome in recent years. Its next resort show will take place in Havana, Cuba on May 3.

Since openings its borders to the U.S., Cuba has been a popular source of inspiration for designers, including Stella McCartney and Proenza Schouler. Rio de Janeiro has not, perhaps, enjoyed as much buzz in fashion circles, but it soon will, as the Brazilian seaside city is hosting the 2016 Summer Olympics starting Aug. 5.
