Weekly Chart Notes: John Lennon, Taylor Swift, 'Glee,' David Guetta

by Gary Trust | Ekim 14, 2010 7:36 EDT LENNON LEGEND: Capitol Records' celebration of what would have been John Lennon's 70th birthday on Oct. 9 brings the party to both the Billboard 200 and Top Pop Catalog Albums this week. Eight of Lennon's classic solo albums were remastered and reissued last week (Oct. 5), while a new boxed set and two hits offerings made their debuts. In the top 40 on the Billboard 200, the Beatle's new 15-song collection "Power to the People: The Hits" bows at No. 24 while his 1980 studio set "Double Fantasy" (with Yoko Ono) returns at No. 34. At No. 88, he re-enters with "Imagine," while at No. 148 his "Signature Box" set debuts (it's an 11-CD collection of remastered albums, rarities and non-album singles). Finally, at No. 196, he bows with the four-CD themed retrospective set "Gimme Some Truth." Each of the four discs takes a look at different aspects of Lennon's career: Working Class Hero (his socio-political songs), Woman (love songs), Borrowed Time (songs about life) and Roots (rock n' roll roots and influences). Lennon also continues to chart with the Starbucks-exclusive set "Opus Collection," at No. 66. His "Double Fantasy" album -- which boasts the Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single "(Just Like) Starting Over" -- probably got the most interesting redux treatment, as it was expanded with an additional disc of "stripped down" versions of the album's original track list. "Double" spent eight weeks at No. 1 in late 1980 and early 1981. With six charting titles this week on the Billboard 200, it marks the first time an act has had as many concurrent albums on the list since the July 17 tally, when Michael Jackson had seven. Only one other act this year -- the Beatles -- has had more. On Jan. 2, the Fab Four locked up nine titles, and the next week, they upped it to 11. On Top Pop Catalog this week, Lennon owns the entire top three with "Double," "Opus" and "Imagine," marking the 17th time that one artist has monopolized rungs 1, 2 and 3. Jackson, the Beatles and Johnny Cash have also SWIFT'S SIX: As reported earlier today (Oct. 14), with Taylor Swift's latest single "Speak Now" debuting at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100, she breaks the record for the most debuts in the top 10 in the 52-year history of chart. "Speak," the title track from her third studio album, due Oct. 25, is her sixth single to enter the chart's top tier. That total surpasses the five top 10 bows earned by Mariah Carey from 1995-1998. Here's a look at the acts with the most top 10 debuts (including those with alter egos -- we're looking at you Miley). ALL TOGETHER NOW: The "Glee" cast enters the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 36 with its version of the Beatles' maiden No. 1, "I Want to Hold Your Hand." The song had reached the survey only once before as a cover, by the Boston Pops Orchestra, under the direction of conductor Arthur Fiedler. The instrumental rose to No. 55 in 1964, six months after the original spent its first of seven weeks at No. 1. The "Glee" Cast arrives with a total of seven new entries on the Hot 100 this week, marking a one-week debut high for the ensemble. Just a week ago, the cast notched their previous best one-week debut haul when they launched six debuts on the tally from their Britney Spears-inspired episode. This week, in addition to "I Want To Hold Your Hand," the kids from "Glee" enter with "One Of Us" (No. 37), "Only the Good Die Young" (No. 50), "Losing My Religion" (No. 60), "Papa Can You Hear Me?" (No. 65), "Bridge Over Troubled Water" (No. 73) and "I Look To You" (No. 74). The seven new "Glee" entries up the cast's total of Hot 100 hits to 82. Only Elvis Presley (108) and James Brown (91) have more. We've previously noted that due to the availability of new releases accompanying each new episode of "Glee," a relatively small number of the cast's recordings have spent more than one week on the list. Through the Oct. 23 ranking, the cast's titles have totaled 107 cumulative chart weeks. Only 15 of their singles have spent at least two weeks on the list. Their most recent multiple-week stay was with "Poker Face," which spent four weeks on the list in June. Among all of their hits, their longest-charting was their first: "Don't Stop Believin'" (with a seven-week run). To compare, while the "Glee" cast continues to up their total of chart hits, they are a long way from approaching any "most weeks on chart" feat. The act with the most total weeks on the chart is Elton John, with 1,021 weeks earned by his 67 hits. He's followed by Elvis Presley (994), Lil Wayne (900), Jay-Z and Madonna (both with 890). GUETTA FABULOUS: Dance king David Guetta lands his sixth hit on the Billboard Hot 100 as "Memories" (featuring Kid Cudi) bows at No. 94. It's the fourth single from Guetta's "One Love" album to chart. No. 98, 2008, "Love Is Gone" (David Guetta & Chris Willis) No. 76, 2009, "When Love Takes Over" (featuring Kelly Rowland) No. 31, 2010, "Gettin' Over You" (David Guetta & Chris Willis featuring No. 9, 2010, "Club Can't Handle Me" (Flo Rida featuring David Guetta) "When Love," "Sexy," Gettin'" and "Memories" are all from the "One Love" set. What's notable about Guetta's continuing chart success is that he's not the first producer to receive an artist billing on a song they don't sing. Guetta writes, produces and performs the music, but vocal duties are In the past, we've seen everyone from Quincy Jones to Oscar-winning composer/conductor John Williams earn multiple chart hits without singing a note. Jones has notched 13 Hot 100 hits (often with the help of some famous singing friends) while Williams has two. Other non-singing composer/conductor or producers with artist credit in the past include Bill Conti (two hits, including the No. 1 "Gonna Fly Now" from "Rocky") and Henry Mancini (15 hits, including the No. 1 "Love Theme from 'Romeo & Juliet'"). CHART 'FEVER': Thanks in part to the promotion of 69-cent songs in the iTunes Music Store last week, a number of veteran acts find themselves with top 10 singles for the first time in ages. On Jazz Digital Songs (viewable at billboard.biz/charts) Peggy Lee's classic "Fever" rallies 37-6, marking the late singer's first top 10 on any Billboard singles chart since 1969, when "Is That All There Is" peaked at No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary chart. Elsewhere on the Jazz Digital Songs chart, Frank Sinatra's "I've Got You Under My Skin" re-enters at No. 10, the Chairman's first top 10 single on a Billboard tally in 30 years. "Theme From New York, New York" had previously been his most recent top 10, when it hit No. 10 on the Adult Contemporary chart in 1980....

Taylor Swift Is Angry, Darn It

Taylor Swift Is Angry, Darn It

By JON CARAMANICA FOR pure star-on-star revenge, "Dear John," from the new Taylor Swift album, "Speak Now," will be tough to beat. Six and a half minutes long and flagrantly provocative, it's a deeply uncomfortable song, its protagonist anguished and violated. "Don't you think I was too young to be messed with?" she asks. "The girl in the dress/Cried the whole way home." The latest on the arts, coverage of live events, critical reviews, multimedia extravaganzas and much more. Join the discussion. John Mayer has brought this out in Ms. Swift, awakening her pain, her ire and her creativity. Rather than write a song in her familiar country-pop mode, she's written an electric blues, its pealing guitar licks a hilarious and pointed reminder of Mr. Mayer, who's a master of the style. It's warfare on the level of Jay-Z versus Nas, Oasis versus Blur, Carly Simon versus whomever. (It might explain why, according to Ms. Swift's Twitter feed, she and her family were recently debating who "You're So Vain" was about.) Of course, this being the coy, evasive Ms. Swift, the name John Mayer is never uttered on this song, just as she didn't say it during a lengthy interview in Nashville last month, just as she will likely never fully confess that the John of the title is Mr. Mayer, with whom she has performed and who tabloids reported she was involved with earlier this year. Still, whatever he did — or whatever Ms. Swift would like to suggest that he did — must have been brutal: "I feel like in my music I can be a rebel," Ms. Swift said at a quiet restaurant not far from her new Nashville apartment. "I can say things I wouldn't say in real life. I couldn't put the sentence together the way I could put the song together." In interviews she's like her songs, almost revealing. Her communication about communication is as strong as ever. Ms. Swift, while wide-eyed and easily awestruck, is prim and difficult to ruffle. She is still sometimes treated with kid gloves, as if she were a child star, but Ms. Swift is an adult now; she'll turn 21 in December. Still, if this is what this preternaturally wise teen star turned 21st-century multimedia celebrity is developing into, bring it on. She is her own TMZ, "Fatal Attraction" by way of Hannah Montana. "Dear John" is by far the most scorching track on "Speak Now" (Big Machine), which is out on Monday, though plenty of the rest of the album stings. It's the most savage of her career, and also the most musically diverse. And it's excellent too, possibly her best. "Speak Now" is also a bravura work of nontransparent transparency. "I second-guess and overthink and rethink every single thing that I do," she said. The album touches on many of the major public events in Ms. Swift's life the last two years — her conflict with Kanye West at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, the sprouting criticisms of her live singing voice, a romantic relationship with the actor Taylor Lautner, rumored dalliances with Mr. Mayer and others — without naming names, relying on fans, critics and tabloids to fill in the blanks. The great accomplishment of this album, though, is that Ms. Swift is at her most musically adventurous when she's most incensed. She may not be outgrowing the ethos of tit for tat — righting wrongs is Ms. Swift's raison d'être — but as an artist, she's finding new ways to fight back. This may not have been an inevitability, but it was definitely a necessity. So much has happened in the two years since the release of "Fearless," Ms. Swift's second album, that running in place wasn't an option. Her musical life, which she has advertised as autobiographical since her first single, "Tim McGraw," four years ago, depends on her version of truth telling. But now that so much of her life unfolds in the public eye, she can't merely trust that listeners will take her word for things. Hers isn't the only narrative. On her first album, "Taylor Swift," and, to a degree, on "Fearless," she had little more to do than share her adolescent imagination. Even her darker songs were about poking the hole in the ideal more than any actual trauma. But experience is gaining on her. "This whole apparent growing up that happens," she called it, with comic dismissal. In these new songs relationships are no longer fantasies, or neutered; they're lived-in places, where bodies share space. "I'll watch your life in pictures like I used to watch you sleep," she tells an ex on "Last Kiss." Other beds are in play too. "She's not a saint/And she's not what you think," she spits out on "Better Than Revenge," seething over losing someone to a predatory woman. "She's an actress/But she's better known for the things that she does on the mattress."...

Adriana Francesca Lima (born June 12, 1981) is a Brazilian model best known as a Victoria's Secret Angel since 2000 and a spokesmodel for Maybelline cosmetics from 2003 to 2009. At age 15, Lima finished first place in Ford's "Supermodel of Brazil" competition and took second place the following year in the Ford "Supermodel of the World" competition before signing with Elite Model Management in New York City.

Lima never thought about being a model, although she had won many beauty pageants in elementary school. However, she had a friend at school who wanted to enter a modeling contest and didn't want to enter alone, so Lima entered with her. Both sent in pictures, and the contest sponsor soon asked Lima to come out for the competition. Soon after, at the age of 15, she entered and finished in first place in Ford's "Supermodel of Brazil" model search. She subsequently entered the 1996 Ford "Supermodel of the World" contest and finished in second place. Three years later, Lima moved to New York City and signed with Elite Model Management. After acquiring representation, Lima's modeling portfolio quickly began to expand, and she appeared in numerous international editions of Vogue and Marie Claire. As a runway model, she has walked the catwalks for designers such as Vera Wang, Christian Lacroix, Emanuel Ungaro, Giorgio Armani, Fendi, Ralph Lauren and Valentino, among others. Lima became a guess girl in 2000, appearing in that year's fall ad campaign. She also appeared in the book A Second Decade of Guess? Images.

Lima continued to build upon her portfolio, doing more print work for Maybelline, for whom she worked as a spokesmodel from 2003 until 2009, the same year she appeared in the company's first calendar, a limited edition run also featuring Kemp Muhl, Jessica White, Julia Stegner, and Anna Wang. Lima has also worked for notable fashion brands bebe, Mossimo, Armani, Bulgari, De Beers, FCUK, Intimissimi, Keds, Swatch, Versace, and BCBG. She also appeared on the covers and in the editorials of other fashion magazines such as Harper's Bazaar, ELLE, GQ, Arena, Cosmopolitan, and Esquire. Her April 2006 GQ cover was the highest-selling issue that magazine for the year, while her April 2008 cover brought a record number of hits to the magazine's website. She also appeared in the 2005 Pirelli Calendar and became the face of Italy's cell phone carrier, Telecom Italia Mobile, a move that earned her the nickname, "the Catherine Zeta-Jones of Italy."

In 2006, Sao Paulo Fashion Week released a calendar featuring twenty-five Brazilian models, including Lima. The calendar was accompanied by a movie containing interviews with the models, which was broadcasted at GNT in Brazil and then hit the shelves as a DVD.

In February 2008, she was featured on the cover of Esquire, re-creating the classic 1966 Angie Dickinson cover on Esquire's 75th anniversary along with fellow Victoria's Secret Angels Alessandra Ambrosio, Karolina Kurkova, Izabel Goulart and Selita Ebanks. She appeared only in shoes, diamonds and gloves for the November 2007 issue of Vanity Fair celebrating 20 years of supermodels with her fellow Angels. In February 2008, she was chosen to be the face of Mexico's Liverpool department store chain and launched the partnership with a press conference, runway show, and summer campaign. Lima returned to the high fashion runway in 2009, walking for Givenchy. That same year, after visiting Turkey, Lima signed a contract with Doritos to appear in print campaigns and commercials which began airing in Turkey in April. She is also one of the faces of Givenchy for the Fall/Winter 2009 season, alongside Mariacarla Boscono and Iris Strubegger.

In 2006, Lima ranked as the fifth highest paid supermodel. In 2007 and 2008, she ranked as the world's fourth highest paid supermodel by Forbes Magazine.

==Victoria's Secret==
Lima is probably best known for her work with Victoria's Secret. Her first fashion show for the company came in 1999, and since being contracted as an Angel in 2000, she has appeared on subsequent shows ever since, opening the show in 2003, 2007, and 2008, in which she also closed the opening segment. Lima has appeared on several television ads for the brand, including the praised and criticized "Angel in Venice" commercial of 2003 with Bob Dylan and her solo Victoria's Secret's Super Bowl XLII ad, the single most-seen ad of the game, watched by 103.7 million viewers. 2008 continued for Lima with hosting the What Is Sexy? program for the E! Entertainment Network and a July tour for the BioFit Uplift Bra launch, with stops in Long Island, Boston, and Miami Beach. She was also featured in November's Miracle Bra relaunch. Topping the year off, Lima wore the "Fantasy Bra" for the 2008 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. In 2009, Lima launched the company's new makeup line, "Christian Siriano for VS Makeup."

==Acting==
Lima's first acting role was the wife, alongside Mickey Rourke and Forest Whitaker, in The Follow (2001), a short film in BMW's series The Hire, starring Clive Owen. She also appeared with her fellow Angels in a guest spot playing herself in the series How I Met Your Mother in November 2007.

In 2008, Lima appeared on the American television series Ugly Betty, where she played herself and made friends with the series' title character, played by America Ferrera. According to her publicist, Liza Anderson, "Adriana has always been a huge fan of Ugly Betty and is thrilled for the opportunity to make a guest star appearance."

==Reception==
Since her rise to fame, Lima is often cited by popular media as one of the world's sexiest women. Lima was listed in the 2005 Forbes' edition of The World's Best-Paid Celebrities Under 25. Also, she ranked No.99th in the 2006 Forbes' edition of The Celebrity 100 (Forbes' Highest Paid and Powerful Celebrities in the World). Lima was chosen to be a part of People magazine's 100 most beautiful people in the world list, sharing that space with the Angels, with whom she also received a star on the Hollywood "Walk of Fame" prior to the 2007 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. That same year, she ranked 7th on FHM's "100 Sexiest Women 2007" list and was awarded as the "Hottest Girl on the Planet" at the first Spike TV Guys' Choice Awards, although the category was not mentioned in the actual broadcast. Lima was also voted on the Maxim "Hot 100" 2007 at the #53 spot. She was voted #1 as the Most Desirable Woman in 2005 by visitors of the men's lifestyle website, Askmen.com (she placed 4th in 2006 and 2007, 10th in 2008, and 19th in 2009). Lima is also listed in the 2009 Guinness Book of World Records as the youngest model on Forbes' Celebrity 100 List. As of November 2008, Models.com featured her at No.1 on the list of the Sexiest Models today. In 2009, she was voted sixth in "FHM's Sexiest Women In The World".

==Public image and Personal life==

In addition to her native Portuguese, Lima speaks English, French, and a bit of Italian. Lima was shy around boys when she was younger, not receiving her first kiss until she was 17 years old. Afterward, the boy went directly to her mother to ask if he could marry her. She is a devout Catholic who attends church every Sunday. In April 2006, she told GQ that she was a virgin. "Sex is for after marriage," she explained. "They have to respect that this is my choice. If there's no respect, that means they don't want me." Staying true to her religious roots, she is known for taking a Bible backstage to read.

She has been romantically linked to musician/singer Lenny Kravitz and Prince Wenzeslaus of Liechtenstein. In 2009 she married Serbian basketball player Marko Jaric'; they wed in a private civil ceremony in Jackson Hole, Wyoming on Valentines Day. The couple originally planned on a large wedding in Salvador in June 2009, but the couple decided to opt for a wedding in each of their hometowns; both are scheduled to take place at the end of 2009.

Lima and Jaric' are reportedly expecting their first child together in December 2009. Lima's representative told People magazine: "Adriana and Marko are overjoyed that they are expecting their first child together and are excited to share the happy news and start their family together." She has also recently applied for Serbian citizenship in order to promote a positive image of Serbia abroad.

==Charity==
Lima does charitable work helping with an orphanage, "Caminhos da Luz" (Ways of Light), located in her hometown. She helps with construction to expand the orphanage, and buys clothes for poor children in Salvador, Bahia. She appeared on Var Yok musun, the Turkish version of Deal or No Deal, where her prize money went to a hospital in Istanbul for children fighting leukemia.

What some of you would love to find under the Christmas tree this year ...
That photo at right shows the stunning Victoria's Secret supermodel Adriana Lima, who today showed off the lingerie line's equally-spectacular $2 million diamond-encrusted bra.
Notice the bra, people, the bra!
Adriana swears that it's "comfortable" to wear.
The "Bombshell Fantasy Bra" - which is "rather spectacular in person," reported one blogger who saw it up close in New York today - has sapphires, topaz stones and 3,000 white diamonds.
It took craftsmen more than a thousand hours to make.
And it took Adriana just two seconds to make her fans eyes pop out.
