Lil Wayne Rhymes Over Beyonce, Hints at Creative Freedom in New Mixtape:

Although Lil Wayne's Tha Carter V remains perpetually postponed, at least the rapper's mixtapes arrive on time: As promised, Wayne has released his Sorry 4 the Wait 2, his consolatory mixtape for fans still waiting for Tha Carter series' much-delayed fifth installment, an album plagued by infighting between Wayne and his label Cash Money. Sorry 4 the Wait 2 finds Weezy hopping on beats like Beyoncé's "Drunk in Love," Rae Sremmurd's "No Type," Bobby Shmurda's "Hot Nigga," iLoveMakonnen's "Maneuvering" and Future's "Shit" among the mixtape's 17 tracks. Along the way, Lil Wayne is joined by 2 Chainz and label mates Mack Maine, Shanell, Christina Milian and Drake, who appears on the original cut "Used To."

The original Sorry 4 the Wait mixtape dropped in July 2011 as an apology to fans waiting around for Tha Carter IV, which would finally come out the following month. It's unclear whether TC5 will have a similar journey or if Tha Carter V will stay in flux until the rapper works out his Cash Money problems and differences with label CEO Birdman.

Sorry 4 the Wait 2's cover offers another telling detail of the rapper's relationship with Cash Money: The artwork shows an arm – presumably Wayne's judging by the tattoos – with a handcuff secured around the wrist but free on the other end, perhaps hinting that the rapper is almost free from his burden. In December, after TC5 was delayed yet again, Wayne called himself a "prisoner" to Cash Money, both creatively and financially.

Tha Carter V was originally due out in October 2013 before it was postponed numerous times in 2014. The album's last firm release date was December 9th, 2014, but was again yanked from the schedule. A new release date has yet to be announced.
