What exactly is it that newlywed Katy Perry sees in her new husband, British comic Russell Brand?
Harper’s Bazaar Magazine investigates just that in a chat with the card-carrying “California Gurl” that will appear between the covers of the mag’s December issue, available Nov. 16.
We never would have taken Russ for the biblical type — given all the sex addiction and potty-minded sense of humor and all — but for Katy, Brand’s spiritual quest was a bigger turn-on than bulked-up arms and a sizable bank account.
“I always knew I wanted a great man of God, someone who was going to be an inspiration for people and also be a lovely husband and father,” Katy says of her husband and his spiritual quest. “We’re at different places in our lives, but we can still grow together. He’s thought-provoking, articulate, a real advocate. I also definitely wanted to have a laugh. I have all that in him.”
Katy gabbed on about her image and how sex appeal and being part of a new wave of trendsetting pop stars — ie: Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Rihanna — has influenced her sound.
“We’re all unique. That’s why we all win and we all can exist. People don’t want just vanilla. They want 31 flavors. I couldn’t do what Rihanna does. I couldn’t do what Gaga does. They can’t do what I do,” Katy says of her competitors.
“I’m kind of a good girl—and I’m not,” she adds. “I’m a good girl because I really believe in love, integrity, and respect. I’m a bad girl because I like to tease. I know that I have sex appeal in my deck of cards. But I like to get people think ing. That’s what the stories in my music do.”
