Hedi Slimane Wants You to Know He's Not Behind YSL's Latest Fragrance Ads

Hedi Slimane Wants You to Know He's Not Behind YSL's Latest Fragrance Ads:

Hedi Slimane wants to be perfectly clear: He had nothing -- rien du tout, he says! -- to do with the latest YSL Beauté fragrance, Black Opium: not with the fragrance, the creative direction of the ads, the model selection, nothing.

Taking to Twitter (where else?), Saint Laurent released the following statement on his behalf:

It's perhaps not surprising that the man who took "Yves" out of the label's name would take pains to distance himself from another component of the business which has little to do with him.  Like most luxury houses, the brand's beauty business is a licensing agreement with another company (in this case, the L'Oréal Group).

Still, it's understandable that the press might think Slimane was involved, as the ad campaign stars Edie Campbell, a favorite of Slimane and a model who has featured in past Saint Laurent ad campaigns. The fragrance, by the way, will be available in the U.S. in 2015.

Nicolas Ghesquière Solidifies His Vision for Louis Vuitton

Nicolas Ghesquière showed his third collection (including resort) for Louis Vuitton on Wednesday at the house's brand-new, Frank Gehry-designed Fondation Louis Vuitton, a contemporary art museum.

What guests saw inside were more of the '60s-inspired shapes shown the season before. There were short (even shorter this time) A-line silhouettes, high-waisted trousers and skirts, glossy leather jackets with pointed collars, slip dresses in rich fabrics and walkable ankle boots. There were also several pairs of high-waisted, cropped pants in the '70s-inspired silhouette we will likely all be wearing come spring.

Given the number of repeats -- both in style and fabrication -- from the season before, Ghesquière appears to be focused on giving buyers exactly what they want: that is, new takes on his bestselling styles from fall for spring. Such consistency is also good for making clear his vision for the house. So far, it involves cute, appealing clothes in retro silhouettes with Ghesquière's signature futuristic twist -- the kind of clothes that cool girls want to wear.

And while ready-to-wear is of growing importance to Louis Vuitton's business, the house continues to mint its money with bags. Almost every model carried one, including more of the Petite Malles Ghesquière introduced for spring, larger bowling-shaped styles that also didn't differ greatly from last season and were mostly monogrammed, chain strap flap bags with "LV" logos and more fashion-forward soft leather bags that fold over and snap. There's a lot to choose from -- but not one that particularly stands out as a must-have. The clothes were definitely the stars this season.

Miuccia Prada doesn’t need a picket sign to illustrate her feminism -- her fashion says enough without adding props to the mix. For her spring 2015 Miu Miu collection, the designer took proper attire -- narrow pencil skirts, boxy hip-length jackets, fur-trimmed coats-- and paired them with what some would consider highly improper ruffled chiffon cropped or bra tops.

Prada told WWD that this season’s muse was “apparently very sweet but in the end, deep down, very nasty.” With their jousting silhouettes and mismatched prints and patterns, the clothes had an “I’ll wear what I want” attitude, framed by the models’ matted down, almost-sordid hair. All that was missing was a lit cigarette in every right hand.

Here's Hoping Taylor Swift's New Fragrance Sells Better Than the Last One

Needlepoint enthusiast and cat-carrying paparazzi fixture Taylor Swift is taking a momentary break from churning out the pop hits to launch her latest fragrance, "Incredible Things." We are disappointed to report that Swift has yet again missed her biggest opportunity to fill a market void — that being a perfume that smells like a mash-up of every baked good known to man. Next time.

What it does smell like is vanilla orchid, something called a "suede flower," Madagascar vanilla and wild passion flower, among other sparkling fruits and musks. What Elizabeth Arden, the creator of Swift's fragrances, is probably hoping it smells like is success. (Does a joke ever have to happen? Sometimes, yes.)

According to the beauty company's fiscal 2014 report, the singer's "Wonderstruck," "Wonderstruck Enchanted" and "Taylor by Taylor Swift" scents way underperformed this year. Although Elizabeth Arden said it was prepared for weaker celebrity fragrance sales relative to 2013 since this year had fewer launches overall, "the decline in sales of celebrity fragrances, particularly the Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift fragrances, was steeper than anticipated."

Bieber we get — his image has been less than aspirational lately. Swift, however, is on top of the world. Case in point: Her November cover for British Vogue just dropped, and it is fantastic. So maybe people are just tiring of celebrity fragrances overall. In any case, we wish "Incredible Things" better luck than its predecessors.

Designer Christophe Lemaire is leaving Hermès to focus on his own label, which means that his spring 2015 collection for the house was his last. (It also happened to be the final show of Paris Fashion Week.) Sand covered the runway, but there was no hokey safari theme here. Instead, Lemaire focussed on silhouette, draping suede dresses and wool blouses in the most elegant, nonchalant ways. A suede robe coat made an impression, as did a navy leather collared shirt. A neutral palette gave way to a few looks made out of Hermès scarf fabric, a nice homage to his former employers. Lemaire, both with Hermès and his own collection, is one of a consortium of designers truly capturing how we want to dress now: luxe utilitarianism, with few flourishes. Really, who doesn’t want a navy leather anorak in their closet?

What a shame, some might say, given that his wares seem to embody the quiet elegance Hermès puts forward. But unlike some departures, there was little sadness today. After all, we’re not losing Lemaire. He’s simply moving on. And so has Hermès. Next season, new womenswear designer Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski will begin again. And we’ll be watching.

Christophe Lemaire’s Final Hermès Collection Doesn’t Disappoint

From Fashion Girl to 'Gone Girl:' A Rosamund Pike Style Retrospective

From Fashion Girl to 'Gone Girl:' A Rosamund Pike Style Retrospective:

This weekend, Rosamund Pike — the British actress who got her start as a Bond girl — will make her highly-anticipated debut as Amy Dunne in "Gone Girl," a role that will likely catapult her further into the spotlight as a major movie star. Until now, at least in the U.S., she's sort of been that pretty blonde that looks a little familiar.

In addition, she's always dressed really well on the red carpet — something we've noticed for years without really knowing what movies she's been in. Pike's standout style, which the pregnant actress has maintained as her baby bump has grown, has begun to draw more attention recently, making her a go-to for fashion magazine covers — she covered Vogue UK and Glamour U.S. in October and W in May, to name a few — and best dressed lists.

So, before "Gone Girl" hits theaters and we all start to see her as the #dark, terrifying (or reasonable?) psychopath her character is, we decided to take a look back at her best red carpet moments over the years. She wavers between a minimalist, Hitchcock heroine aesthetic and a cool British girl who wears Christopher Kane and Erdem, a duality that perhaps helped her relate to her "Gone Girl" character? Read on for our picks.

Meet the 5 Most Popular Models of Fashion Month:

Fashion Month finally came to a close on Wednesday, and between New York, London, Milan and Paris, legions of models from all over the globe were featured in a whopping 400-something shows (and presentations) over four weeks. But, in a sea of new faces, a handful of girls stood out to designers and casting directors enough to book more shows than the majority of their peers — some even topping 60 runway appearances.

While we were keeping our own personal tallies, we consulted Models.com — which neatly tracked the castings of every runway show this Fashion Month — to introduce you to the top five models of the season. (Well, technically the top eight, since there was a three-way tie for the number five spot.) Get to know them below, since their careers are likely about to take off in a big way.

Why you should get to know her: Verhoef was a Prada runway exclusive at the label's spring 2013 show. Exactly two years and a handful of ad campaigns later — Valentino, Prada and Repossi, specifically — she's the top model of Fashion Month, clocking an impressive number of shows, four of which she opened. Verhoef also closed Hermès, the final show of Paris Fashion Week, and if that doesn't count as a victory lap, we don't know what does.

Why you should get to know her: The 17-year-old first appeared on the scene at Proenza Schouler's spring 2014 show, and since then, she's walked the crème de la crème of runways, including Chanel Couture, Christian Dior Couture, Céline and Givenchy. This season, she held the honor of opening and closing Guillaume Henry's final show for Carven in Paris.

Why you should get to know her: After getting her start walking Sao Paulo Fashion Week in her native Brazil during the fall/winter 2014 season, Gorczevski quickly achieved international runway domination. She was a Dior Couture exclusive for spring 2014, and has since made runway appearances at Chanel, Fendi, Jil Sander, Chloé, Proenza Schouler and more. This season, she closed the Dior show in Paris.

Number of shows walked: 52
Why you should get to know her: Boling is definitely having a "moment," which is unsurprising since Alexander Wang took an early interest in her. She starred in the designer's resort 2014 lookbook for Balenciaga, and she's currently a face of the fall 2014 campaign for his eponymous line. Miuccia Prada made her a part of the ensemble cast for Prada's spring 2014 ad campaign, and in addition to scoring campaigns for Coach and Tommy Hilfiger for fall, she's walked over 50 of the top runways the Fashion Month — including opening and closing Tom Ford.

Nationality: Estonian
Number of shows walked: 51
Why you should get to know her: Kuusik's blue eyes, bleach blonde hair and  freckled face are unique and instantly recognizable, so we're not surprised that so many designers are taken with her at the moment. This season, she stars solo in the black and white Edun campaign for fall 2014, and she scored coveted spots in ads for Proenza Schouler, Valentino and Coach this year as well. In addition to becoming a top model on the runway, she's cementing her status as an editorial fixture, and in 2014 she's appeared in the pages of British Vogue, Vogue Russia, Love, Interview and Style.com/Print.

Julia Bergshoeff (Tie)

Meet the 5 Most Popular Models of Fashion Month
Nationality: Dutch
Number of shows walked: 51
Why you should get to know her: Bergshoeff was the sole face of Proenza Schouler's fall 2014 ad campaign, which is a pretty huge honor in itself. This season, she opened Alexander McQueen, closed Giambattista Valli and walked the likes of Balenciaga, Chanel, Valentino, Gucci and Marc Jacobs throughout the month.

Maja Salamon (Tie)

Meet the 5 Most Popular Models of Fashion Month
Nationality: Polish
Number of shows walked: 51
Why you should get to know her: This new face has already starred in more editorials this year than we could keep track of (many of which appear in the international editions of Vogue), and Salamon couldn't be stopped this season, racking up slots on the runways for the likes of Rick Owens, Oscar de la Renta, Kenzo, Dior and Prabal Gurung. Salamon's a versatile one, so we're thinking big things lie ahead for her.
