'Lucky' Is Going Out of Print for Now

After 15 years, Lucky magazine is going out of print "for now," a source familiar with the company's plans told Fashionista, confirming multiple reports published earlier on Monday.

Lucky's digital counterpart, luckyshops.com, will continue on — though, after multiple rounds of layoffs, with a much smaller staff than it enjoyed previously. Additional employees on the print side were laid off on Monday, plus one member of the online team, the source said.

Lucky has made no secret of the fact that it has been seeking outside investment or an acquisition to continue on. According to the source, a deal has been in discussion for some time, but the magazine was forced to close its print operations and lay off more staff Monday after a "key investor" pulled out of talks. The source added that the main investor, "a large digital media company," is still involved, as are other investors.

The news is not particularly surprising to anyone who has followed the Lucky saga in recent years. When Eva Chen was first named editor in chief of Lucky in June 2013, the shopping-focused magazine was already battling a sharp decline in ad pages, a trend that Chen — even with a glossy makeover aided by Anna Wintour — could not reverse. Last August, Lucky was spun off from Condé Nast into a joint venture with e-commerce company Beachmint, which was reportedly faring much worse. In February, the newly formed company launched a new enterprise, Lucky Shops, a website that housed both Lucky's online editorial content and a small shop of apparel and accessories goods selected by editors. Still, the bleeding didn't stop, and Lucky announced just last month that it would be reducing its print frequency to quarterly and laying off more staffers, including President Gillian Gorman Round.

Sad as the news is, it's full time for the Lucky Group to move on from print and focus on its digital future. But that will take time and investment, and it's not yet apparent whether the Lucky Group will be granted either.

The Jazz Age Lawn Party Was a Marvel of '20s-Inspired Dresses, Hats and Hair

Sure, the annual Jazz Age Lawn Party on Governors Island isn't just an excuse to dress up in amazing 1920s (or 1920s-inspired) getups — the thousands of people who attend the annual event also get to enjoy live music, swing dancing and Prohibition-inspired cocktails. But the way revelers interpret the theme from hairpiece to heel is our favorite part of the weekend-long shindig. This year, we were particularly impressed by the headgear: straw hats, cloche hatsflowers, pins, brooches, headdresses and everything in between.

See the gallery below for our favorite looks from the Jazz Age Lawn Party.

Yoox chose the right time to enter into a merger with Net-a-Porter. After losing millions of pounds for years, the London-based e-commerce conglomerate finally became profitable during the 12 months ended March 31.

You might recall that just last month, we reported that the Net-a-Porter Group (which includes Net-a-Porter, The Outnet and Mr Porter) was still in the red, costing its former parent company, Richemont, £2 million (about $3.1 million) in the 2014/2015 fiscal year.

But according to figures published by Net-a-Porter on Friday, Net-a-Porter actually posted a net profit of £1.8 million ($2.9 million) after tax and £11 million ($17.1 million) before tax in the 12 months ending March 31. A source familiar with Net-a-Porter's finances tells us that goodwill expenses, which are included in Richemont's reports but not Net-a-Porter's, are the reason for the discrepancy between the two figures.

A profit of £2 million might not seem substantial for a company as large and well-known as Net-a-Porter, but it's an impressive achievement for a company that cost Richemont £12 million ($18.6 million) in the 2013/2014 fiscal year, and £27 million ($41.9 million) in the 2012/2013 fiscal year.

According to Net-a-Porter's filing, the company's sales were up 22.8 percent for the year, with the strongest growth shown in the final quarter, during which sales increased 33 percent. Profit margins also increased from 44.1 percent to 45.3 percent, the result of selling more product at full price than it had the previous year.

While the Group's shift into the black is certainly significant, the filing reveals some other fascinating growth numbers. For instance, monthly unique visitors between all three sites grew to 10.7 million. Total customers (meaning they've purchased something within the past 12 months) grew from 698,000 to 887,000 — a 27 percent increase. Average order value for the group decreased slightly from £404 to £391, while orders for Net-a-Porter specifically are £506 on average. Meanwhile, mobile and tablet sales increased by 46 percent and now make up 40 percent of the group's overall sales. In total, the company had 2.6 million orders last year.

The company's year-old print magazinePorter, has a circulation of 152,000, and can be found at 25,000 points of sale. The glossy helped drive a 77 percent increase in advertising revenue, and the company found that 46 percent of newsstand purchases were made by people who hadn't previously shopped at Net-a-Porter, meaning its potential to bring in new customers is promising.

More fun facts: Europe and the U.S. make up most of the Group's revenue, at 45 percent and 31 percent, respectively. Those markets grew by 24 percent and 25 percent, respectively.

Net-a-Porter's deal to merge with Yoox is expected to be complete by September.

Gap to Close 175 Stores, Lay Off 250 Corporate Employees

Following another bad sales quarterGap is taking austerity measures.

The retailer announced Monday that it plans to shut down 175 North American speciality (i.e., non-outlet) stores in the coming years, with 140 to close before the end of January 2016. An unknown number of European stores will also close. In addition to the many employees who will be laid off at those stores, 250 roles are also being eliminated at the company's headquarters in San Francisco.

The closures will cost the company $300 million in sales losses, and $140 million to $160 million in operational costs. But next year, the closures will start saving Gap $25 million annually — savings it needs after several quarters of declining sales. After the closures, 500 speciality locations will remain, in addition to 300 outlet stores.

Gap has been making some significant changes this year. Just last week the company announced new hires for merchandising and design, replacing the team in place during Creative Director Rebekah Bay's two-year tenure, which ended in January. Gap decided not to fill her role, and Art Peck, who officially became CEO of Gap in February, appointed Wendi Goldman to the role of executive vice president of Gap product design and development that same month. Global President Jeff Kirwan came onboard in December.

By condensing the business and building a strongly integrated merchandising and design team, will 2015 finally be Gap's year for a turnaround? Stay tuned.

We Know Nothing: The Season 5 'Game of Thrones' Finale Fashion Recap

We Know Nothing: The Season 5 'Game of Thrones' Finale Fashion Recap:

Jon Snow emotes for us all.
Jon Snow emotes for us all.
Spoilers.

Welcome to the end of season five of "Game of Thrones." Will there even be a season six? I don't see how there possibly can be because EVERYONE IS DEAD NOW.  Well, dead or in impossible-to-live-through situations. (See: Sansa and Theon hopping off that very tall wall and Daenerys surrounded by a tribe of mean-looking Dothraki. Then there's poor blind Arya.) Thank goodness Melisandre and Ramsay Bolton are still alive, though!

In addition to killing, maiming or torturing everyone this episode, the showrunners decided to treat the costumes like crap, too. Everyone was a mess. Let's take a look at the fashion in this, the finale of season five, then we can all go back to silently weeping.

Sansa and Theon, Together Again

A small light shone through Winterfell during Sunday night's GoT finale, and it was Theon coming to his damn senses finally. Well, at least until he and Sansa decided to hop off that tall wall. However, I'm taking heart because Sansa has her avenging angel hood on, and she was sounding pretty confident talking to Ramsay's lover right before Theon tossed her over the wall. Sansa as queen of the Seven Kingdoms?

A Happy Couple

"He's the toughest man with no balls I've ever met." Were truer words of Grey Worm ever spoken? These two are a beautiful couple. And I'm happy Missandei is getting a bit of a wardrobe update here. I love the very Bottega-esque basketweave leather top, which went with a knife-pleated skirt. Missandei finally throws off her slave roots.

Bye, Myrcella!

Photo: Macall B. Polay/HBO
Aw, finally Ellaria came around to Myrcella. She's such a sweet girl, how could you not? Oh, wait. Ellaria kissed Myrcella with that horrible poison lipstick, and Myrcella died right after Jaime finally admitted he was her father. (I imagine that kiss felt something like this.) But at least they both looked gorgeous in their floaty Dornish frocks, right up until the end.

And Bye, Felicia

Helen Sloan/HBO

Hey, Stannis, how did killing your daughter work out for you? Oh, it didn't? Shocker. Avenging angel Brienne came and put you out of your misery. I did like Stannis's heart sigil the best out of all of them, though.

Cersei Gets a Slut-Shaming Pixie Cut

Photo: Macall B. Polay/HBO
Photo: Macall B. Polay/HBO
Cersei is no one's favorite character, but this scene was grueling. In a slut-shaming scene at its most medieval, Cersei made the long walk from the prison to the Red Keep naked with some nuns who are nothing like the ones in "The Sound of Music." (According to Entertainment Weekly, actress Lena Headey used a body double for this scene.) I hope that eventually Cersei recovers from the ordeal and realizes how strong a pixie cut can make you feel. No need to hide behind all those elaborate twists and braids anymore.

Photo: HBO
Photo: HBO
As Drogon recovered from his wounds, Daenerys contemplated how badly she ruined that beautiful white gown. At least the silver neck piece was still intact. And then a bunch of Dothraki showed up and started riding rodeo-style around her. What the heck is happening?

Oh, Great. The Mountain is Back

Photo: HBO
Photo: HBO
The Mountain, as you'll recall, is the one who smashed Oberyn's beautiful head into oblivion. He was dead, and now he's been brought back to life "Pet Sematary"-style to serve Cersei, who obviously has some new revenge fantasies now. He needs some foundation, clearly.

Photo: Helen Sloan/HBO
Photo: Helen Sloan/HBO
Oh, Olly will probably get over that whole thing about his family being killed and eaten by wildlings, right? Wrong. You know nothing, Jon Snow. I have nothing to say about their outfits right now.

Photo: Helen Sloan/HBO
Photo: Helen Sloan/HBO
NOOOOOOOOO. I read the books and had been dreading this scene all season, but had hoped (haha!) that possibly the show would spare Jon Snow. It didn't. Jon Snow is now dead, at the hands of a mutiny. However, I take some solace in the fact that there are many credible theories for how Snow can come back to life in the future. Let's hope, because I'm going to miss his hair and his brooding stares a lot.

At least we can all take solace in the fact that Jon Snow wasn't a virgin when he died. His hair never looked better than when he was in love with Ygritte.

H&M's Growth Slowed This Spring (But It Still Brought in $5.6 Billion)

H&M's Growth Slowed This Spring (But It Still Brought in $5.6 Billion):

Rising temperatures, rising revenue? On Monday, H&M announced that its sales grew 10 percent in May, the same month that it opened its largest store in the world in New York's Herald Square.

The Swedish fast fashion giant's sales also grew 10 percent during the second quarter of the year, which spanned March 1 to May 31. Though that's slightly slower than the 14 to 15 percent boost H&M saw during the previous quarter — and less than the 19 percent sales increase it achieved during the same period last year — you can hardly call it peanuts. From March through May, H&M brought in 45.97 billion Swedish kronor, or roughly $5.6 billion.

Unfortunately, H&M doesn't break out sales figures for stores that have been around a full year, so it's difficult to estimate how much of H&M's continued sales growth can be attributed solely to the aggressive expansion of its store network. (Our guess: most of it.) At this point, H&M owns 3,639 stores around the world — 354 more than it had at this time last year.
