Makeup for Redheads: The Go-To Guide

Makeup for Redheads: The Go-To Guide:

  2014-01-22-redhead_makeup_tips1.png

If you're a natural redhead, it is safe to say you've had difficulties finding the right makeup. You've probably tried over ten different foundations, discovered mascara was the best thing invented (ever!) and could still use 'redhead friendly' product recommendations. Unfortunately, the big brands do not target redheads (which is why we launched HowtobeaRedhead.com), but there are many products on the market fit for fair, sensitive skin and complementary to red hair. The trick is finding which is best.

To start you New Year off with success, here are the top makeup recommendations* for the 'lady gingers' of the world:

Before makeup is applied, always wash skin and prep with a light lotion or face oil. We've learned that oils can really transform skin, especially if it's super sensitive and dry. We absolutely love Me and the Girls' Moon Beauty Serum.

Next, apply a primer. It was difficult to find one that didn't cause our skin to break out. But, we love Urban Decay Eyeshadow 'Primer Potion'. It comes in a little tube, but lasts for a very long time. It's very light and keeps our shadows on all day. We also use it to "fill in" other areas that need help.

Did you know redheads have thinner skin? It's true. That could be why it is essential to find a good quality concealer. Try It Cosmetics 'Bye Bye Under Eye' Anti-Aging Concealer.

For those natural days, a little eyeshadow goes a long way. Add a little of LORAC's 'Sand' eyeshadow. Add a few more layers at night for an enhanced look.

Due to a redhead's fair skin, it's best to stick with powders because it's more natural looking. Find one that doesn't make your skin look gray or too dark because you still want to those freckles to stand out. We love Korres Mineral Foundation in Fair/Light.

Although redheads look stunning with their unique hair and skin, it's safe to say that most wished (at one point in their lives) they could tan. We've tried many bronzers on the market, and they usually make our fair skin look a bit un-natural. We actually use a powder in 'Medium' for our bronzer! It gives definition to our cheeks and gives us a natural glow. We love Tarte's 'Powderful Amazonian Clay Pressed Mineral Powder' in Medium. Apply underneath the cheekbones and on the temples.

If you're a redhead with blonde eyebrows, we know how difficult it is to find a pencil to match your brows. Most products on the market are too dark or too red. We adore BH Cosmetics' Flawless Brow Trio in "Light." You are able to define your eyebrows the way you want with the most natural color.

Do you have blonde eyelashes too? It's always best to define the eye with an eyeliner like Stila's Liquid Liner and Cover Girl's 'Lash Blast" Volume Mascara. We always aim for 'the classic redhead look' and opt for black; but if you're more comfortable with brown, choose a deeper brown shade.

Last, but not least, we love breaking the redhead makeup stereotypes. Redheads can rock a red lip! Our favorite is Dior ''Rouge 743 Zinnia Red.' If you want a more natural look, choose a simple lip balm like Hawaiian Tropic Tropical Lip Care with SPF 45. We are big fans of products with sunscreen because it keeps us protected while looking beautiful.

If you aren't a redhead and you're reading this, do you wish you were one now? We sure hope so! Redheads are awesome.

*All recommended products were tested, approved and deemed 'redhead friendly.'

Shirtless David Beckham Super Bowl Ad To Show Becks In 'Never-Before-Seen Positions'

Shirtless David Beckham Super Bowl Ad To Show Becks In 'Never-Before-Seen Positions': If shirtless David Beckham can't get you to watch the Super Bowl, nothing can.

The British footballer-turned-undie model is serving up another round of H&M ads complete with a Super Bowl commercial. Beckham's first Super Bowl ad in 2012 was dramatic, slow-mo and black and white -- all the better to focus on those chiseled abs. This time around, H&M announced, the commercial will be "a high-octane ride with tantalizing views of Beckham in never-before-seen positions."

New positions, you say? Tell us more.

"Director Nicolas Winding Refn and David Beckham filmed two alternate versions of the action-packed 30-second spot, and fans will have the chance to determine which one the world will see on Super Bowl Sunday," H&M wrote in a press release.

Lovely. You can vote online or in stores, or you can just wait and occupy yourself with the print ads in the meantime until Feb. 2 rolls around. That's our plan, anyway.

If These Models Weren't Modeling, They Would Be... Doctors?

If These Models Weren't Modeling, They Would Be... Doctors?: Some may find it hard to believe that a fashion model could have ever wanted another career, but plenty of models have had even loftier ambitions -- academically, at least.

In fact, many of these famous faces have cast aside dream jobs in the medical or science worlds to grace the top runways and magazines. And while we're well aware that saying you'd like to be a doctor or a marine biologist isn't the same thing as actually doing it, it's pretty amsuing to think about some of these fashion and lingerie models trading in their Vogue covers or Victoria's Secret Angel wings for lab goggles.

We'll believe it when we see it, ladies. In the meantime, here are some models who've wanted to be something else besides models:

Adriana Lima

When asked if she'd always planned on being a supermodel in 2006, Adriana Lima told GQ, "When I started, I was too young to know what I wanted. But today I would like to be a doctor. I want to be a pediatry…how do you call it, pediatrician?" But when asked if she liked kids, she replied, "Not really." A lot has changed since then -- Lima may not have become a pediatrician, but she did have two children.

Karlie Kloss

The 21-year-old has thrown around the idea of going to Harvard, where she would like to study medicine. "I have always had an interest in medicine," she told Daily Front Row Berlin. "My father is an emergency room doctor." She's also considered expanding her entrepreneurial skills, explaining, "Tyra [Banks] did it. She went to Harvard business school. I can do it, too." One degree at a time, Kloss.

Lindsay Ellingson

The Victoria's Secret Angel told Vogue UK recently that she decided she wanted to be a doctor at the age of 13 after undergoing spinal fusion surgery: "And, after it was successful, I thought, 'I want to do this. I want to help people like this.' I really was a math and science nerd and planned to be a doctor, so I started a course in Biology at the University of California. But then I was scouted and Viva sent me to Paris."

Cara Delevingne

The fashion world's resident silly model didn't have any intention of dominating the catwalks -- she told Russh magazine that she always wanted to be a dentist. "I also had this weird passion for dentistry and loved looking inside my mouth. Weird," she said. Can you imagine looking up to this face during a routine filling?

cara

Behati Prinsloo

You'd think a Victoria's Secret Angel and the future Mrs. Adam Levine would be content with her lot in life, but Behati Prinsloo told Russh magazine that if she weren't modeling, she'd be "a marine biologist and living in Hawaii." Actually, that sounds pretty awesome.

Joan Smalls

Just before stepping onto the catwalk for the 2013 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, Joan Smalls told us that she'd definitely be a psychologist if she wasn't a model. But we totally believe her -- she actually got her degree in psychology at the InterAmerican University of Puerto Rico before moving to New York to pursue modeling.

joan

Julia Nobis

The blonde beauty said that when she was 15 years old, she "settled on the idea of becoming a doctor. Before that, there was paleontologist, marine biologist, pastry chef and schoolteacher." Between her appearances on Calvin Klein, Dolce & Gabbana and Louis Vuitton's runways and her editorials in Vogue and W magazine, we'd say she went with none of the above.

Some models weren't always in the cool club...
