Vintage Lingerie: Playful Ways to Wear a Corset, Pannier and Merkin

Vintage Lingerie: Playful Ways to Wear a Corset, Pannier and Merkin:

Vintage lingerie can sometimes be too delicate and frumpy to cause a huge heat wave in the bedroom, ballroom, boardroom and/or even the closet for that matter.

However, art directors, wardrobe stylists and floral stylists, Jill Mason and Kate Rutter for HART (WeAreHart.com) in Portland partnered with raw textiles designer Rio Wrenn, model Alina Phillips, hair and makeup stylist Janelle Hayden, Owner of 'The Prettiest You' to create a unique, and lighthearted way to wear this vintage look.

Let's find out how their artistic enlightenment transformed vintage frumpy into an electrifying coquettish fantasy.

Mason and Rutter say:

The idea was to use elements from the history of costume like the crown, corset, pannier (side hoops), and merkin (a pubic wig) in a new and playful way.

We wanted to take away the restriction and discomfort of garments from the 16th - 18th century and give birth to a fun, and flirty look. Adding the fresh cut anemones, which symbolize unfading love, reinforced to playfulness and kept the look fresh.

Wrenn says:

The corset is a wood front corset from 1860. It was made with vintage cotton lace and backed with cochineal dyed silk, part of my 2011 Collection. The Pannier Phillips is wearing is made with steel banding and silk organza. It was made to go under skirts but has been shown in this format for visual interest.

Hayden says:

I love, laugh and paint beauty into all I see. So, when I was told that a soft, organic romantic vibe was the photo shoot theme, I became super excited. I really wanted to capture the look and feel the creative team was going for, so, I chose a natural appearance to allow Alina's skin, and facial features to tell that story.

How did you achieve such an effortlessly chic look?

Okay, here are a few of what I call, "Hayden's Tried and True Beauty Tips" that make magic happen on the human facial canvas:

  • MAC's strobe cream to moisturize the skin and give a subtle glow

  • MAC's 224 brush to apply all shadows which included 'Dazzle light' on the brow and inner corners, 'Naked lunch' on the lid and some 'soft brown' in the crease

  • I smudged rich ground gel liner from MAC into Alina's top and bottom lash line then covered it with MAC's 'all that glitters' to soften the look, and blend it all seamlessly

  • Alina's lashes were lightly covered in L'Oreal's voluminous mascara in carbon black, as I am in love with this mascara

  • The foundation used was Face Atelier's #4 then lightly contoured with MAC's contour powders and for her lips I lightly lined in MAC's 'Boldly bare' lip liner, and MAC's Myth lipstick

I applied everything with a gentle light affect to achieve a tender subtle glow that did nothing but enhance her natural beauty. Alina's hair was nimbly touched with Enzo Milano's one-inch wand, all curled softly away from her face and tousled with Euforas 'Piece works', another favorite of mine.

Nanette Lepore's Fall 2014 Collection Is A Lesson In 'Less Is More'

Nanette Lepore's Fall 2014 Collection Is A Lesson In 'Less Is More': Come fall Fashion Week, many designers get carried away with excessive layering and overcomplicated silhouettes. But not Nanette Lepore. She delivered a clean collection that offered pieces for those who aren't interested in piling on the layers like an Olsen twin.

The theme of her show was "Handcrafted in New York," and while many of the pieces featured intricate beading, nothing felt overdone. Highlights included burgundy alpaca turtlenecks, printed dresses and cozy knit parkas.

Though we would gladly take all of the designs home, our favorite look from the show came at the very end. The model strutted down the runway in a beaded flannel dress that was as simple as it was stunning. The plunging neckline, combined with the delicate embellishments felt very fresh, which is something you don't often see during the colder months.

Celebrities, you might want to take notes, as this might just be the perfect red carpet dress.

Gwyneth Paltrow And Reese Witherspoon Blend In At Hugo Boss

Gwyneth Paltrow And Reese Witherspoon Blend In At Hugo Boss: So... was everyone at New York Fashion Week wearing black and white today? Or just the people in the front row at Hugo Boss?

From the looks of this photo, celebrity guests Gwyneth Paltrow, Reese Witherspoon and pretty much everyone else surrounding them are dressed completely in black and white.

Perhaps the label dislikes color and demands their guests show up without it. Or maybe it's just a coincidence. Either way, Gwyneth and Reese look fabulous. And we have to admit, we're kind of digging the whole uniform thing.

Kate Mara Strips For GQ, Talks 'House Of Cards' Season 2

Kate Mara Strips For GQ, Talks 'House Of Cards' Season 2: This Valentine's weekend, many people will cuddle with Kate Mara on their iPads as the thrilling "House of Cards" returns to Netflix. These people will be glad to know the gorgeous redhead wears very little in GQ's March issue, and she also isn't shy about sharing her take on the insanely successful series.

"[T]he dials were really high in the first season," Mara says ahead of Season 2. "Beau Willimon [the show's creator] has a very big imagination. And he and our writing staff, I think they really pulled through this season. Because it’s hard to top all the things that happened last season."

"Last year, before Season 1 came out, I had seen all the episodes; this year I haven’t, so I’m just as excited to watch it like anyone else. Still, I think it's just as surprising and addictive. Hopefully, we'll see."

As for how she prepped for the role of Zoe Barnes, the young journalist entangled in passionate mind games with the dangerously brilliant Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey), Mara says: "I didn't shadow anyone. Any questions I had I went to Beau. But being a journalist wasn't the most important thing for me. That was just her job -- it could be anything."

"The most important aspect of Zoe that I felt I needed to understand and wrap my head around was her crazy drive and ambition. Sitting around with Beau and Fincher and Kevin, just setting the backstories -- that's where I got all of my information."

For more with Mara, her sports background (her mom’s family runs the Pittsburgh Steelers and dad’s family runs the New York Giants) and oh so sexy pics, pick up an issue of GQ, on newsstands Feb. 25, or head over to GQ.com now.

The Most Outrageous Looks From New York Fashion Week Fall 2014 (PHOTOS)

The Most Outrageous Looks From New York Fashion Week Fall 2014 (PHOTOS): We totally understand that many of the looks that come down the runway during New York Fashion Week are meant to be aspirational -- but some are just downright outrageous.

Of course the "Star Wars" dresses at Rodarte signify that kitsch is going to be big for fall, but what about those face cages at Alon Livne? What trend is that alluding to? We love fashion, but things are starting to get too wacky.

Check out the eight most outrageous looks from New York Fashion Week Fall 2014 below. We hope to God that we don't see any of these on the street come September.

Emilia Clarke Is Gorgeous, Demure In Vs. Magazine

Emilia Clarke Is Gorgeous, Demure In Vs. Magazine: For those of us who watch "Game Of Thrones," Emilia Clarke is kiiind of a big deal. After all, she is the mother of dragons. Everyone else can still recognize her as a phenomenal actress and a naturally beautiful person, too.

Now, from the looks of her interview with Vs. Magazine, Queen Khaleesi also has a solid sense of humor. Clarke is one of the cover stars for the biannual publication, and she sat down with the mag to discuss her foray into film (she's starring in the upcoming "Terminator" reboot), what it's like to play one of the biggest badasses in television and how she feels about landing on numerous "hottest women" lists:

"Those lists are, of course, appreciated but the best way to think about them is to take them as a good laugh and hope that people will realize I'm not desirable."

We're not so sure we agree about the whole "not desirable" thing, but it is refreshing to see a star with a bit of modesty.

Take a look at the cover and some of the gorgeous photos (those BROWS!) below. Click here to see the whole fashion spread, and to read the entire interview, head over to Vs. Magazine.

Ralph Lauren's Fall 2014 Collection Has Something For Everyone (Literally)

Ralph Lauren's Fall 2014 Collection Has Something For Everyone (Literally): You can't look through Ralph Lauren's 2014 fall collection and not find one outfit you love -- there really is something for everybody.

The show was split into two distinct parts: Lauren began with bright neon pieces and Navajo-inspired frocks from his Polo Ralph Lauren line, and then he dove into more sophisticated territory for Ralph Lauren Collection. For Collection, he showed lots of white knit sweaters and soft pink and grey gowns -- a stark contrast to the fun, more youthful outfits he opened with.

So, why not have two totally separate shows à la Marc Jacobs and Marc by Marc Jacobs? According to Ralph, he "love[s] the contrast of Polo's cool eclectic spirit with the luxury and modern glamour of Collection."

Our favorite look, an all white Collection number, came towards the middle of the show. And no, Karlie Kloss' smize wasn't the reason we chose this ensemble. (Okay, maybe it was one of the reasons.) The cream cashmere trench coat felt so soft and pretty for fall, and the silk bouclé fabric of the turtleneck made this covered-up garment incredibly sexy. Karlie's crocodile purse added nice texture, as did her suede hi-top sneakers and fuzzy beanie. Sure, had Kloss been wearing this outfit today, she would have blended into the blizzard-like New York City conditions. But on the runway, it was perfection.

Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Cover 2014: Chrissy Teigen, Lily Aldridge AND Nina Agdal Strip Down!

Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Cover 2014: Chrissy Teigen, Lily Aldridge AND Nina Agdal Strip Down!: This year's Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue has finally been revealed -- and there is not one, not two, but THREE cover girls! The stars of the highly anticipated 50th anniversary issue will also be announced on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Thursday night.

The cover, which the magazine is calling "the happiest cover in swimsuit history," features Chrissy Teigen, Lily Aldridge and Nina Agdal scantily clad in just neon bikini bottoms. The very fitting theme of the 50th anniversary issue is "Past, Present and Future." People Magazine reports that a trio has not appeared on the cover since 1994.

Teigen, who made her debut in 2010 as "Rookie of The Year" is the veteran of the group, with Agdal following two years later and Aldridge making her first appearance this year. Covering the Swimsuit Issue can catapult a model's career -- and has a long-standing reputation for empowering the women who appear in the issue. Teigen has been known to praise them for their minimal use of Photoshop. Add that to the fact that the three women look absolutely gorgeous, and it's really no surprise they were chosen as a trio.

The models join a long list of beautiful women (Christie Brinkley and Tyra Banks, to name a few) who have had the honor of covering the magazine, and it's completely well deserved. We'll have to wait until Feb. 18 to see the entire spread, but for now, take a look at the cover below and on the Sports Illustrated Swim Daily blog and let us know what you think!
