After filing a US civil lawsuit in June, Belstaff will receive more than $42 million in damages from a total of 676 websites charged with selling counterfeit goods under the British brand’s name. "We are delighted with the results from the ruling," said Elena Mauri, head of Belstaff's legal team, in an official statement. "There are other high profile luxury brands that have taken advantage of the US counterfeiting law, however we believe that our case has set the bar even higher due to the unprecedented number of sites that were taken down in one go."

Belstaff worked with MarkMonitor, a company that focuses on enterprise brand protection, to discover 3,000 websites selling counterfeit products — mostly outerwear items, including knockoffs of the brand's popular leather jackets and a number of outdated designs that are no longer in production. (Of the thousands of websites revealed, up to 800 domains were operated by a single individual based in China.) The four-month long process also allowed MarkMonitor and Belstaff to cease operation of the top 20 websites originally cited in the brand's legal case.

Keeping up with trademark infringement online is a time-consuming and expensive job for luxury brands, but an increasingly important one as such brands work to create their own exclusive e-commerce experiences. And judging (no pun intended) by the swift success of Belstaff's case, it can truly pay off.

Rihanna, Selena Gomez and The Weeknd to Perform at the 2015 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show

Rihanna, Selena Gomez and The Weeknd to Perform at the 2015 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show: Now that Fashion Month's spring 2016 season is all said and done, it's time to turn our attention to a completely different type of runway — one known for being constructed from pink glitter and playing host to the world's most conventionally hot humans. Clearly, I'm talking about the 20th annual ...

Condé Nast president and CEO Bob Sauerberg announced Tuesday that the company has bought Pitchfork Media, the influential Chicago-based music brand that covers music online at Pitchfork.com and through The Pitchfork Review, a quarterly print magazine. It also organizes yearly Pitchfork Music Festivals in Chicago and Paris.

Pitchfork's acquisition is effective immediately and the team will report to Chief Digital Officer Fred Santarpia, who told The New York Times that the quarterly print publication and events will continue.

CEO Ryan Schreiber founded Pitchfork at age 19 in 1995; the publication has since gained a reputation for highlighting up-and-coming artists with the potential for major success, including Arcade Fire and Bon Iver. According to Condé, the company attracts over six million unique visitors per month.

These are the stories making headlines this Tuesday.

Bella Hadid graces the cover of Seventeen

Bella Hadid took a break from high-fashion modeling to cover Seventeen's November issue. In the cover story, she reveals that it's hard not to compare herself to her older sister, especially when everyone else in the industry does. However, she says she is Gigi's "biggest supporter" and that the two sisters are "not competitive at all." Awww. {Seventeen}

Cara Delevingne speaks candidly about her battle with depression

At The Women in the World Summit in London last weekend, Cara Delevingne revealed that she had been battling depression since she was 15 and that the symptoms did not go away after finding success in modeling. She explained, "In our culture we are told that if we are beautiful, if we are skinny, if we are successful, famous, if we fit in, if everyone loves us, that we'll be happy. But that's not entirely true." The model-turned-actress stated that she ultimately found some peace through yoga, writing and by taking time for herself. {Huffington Post}

LVMH continues to see strong sales growthLVMH has shown strong performance in the first two-thirds of 2015, with revenue up a reported 18 percent — 6 percent on a constant currency basis. Growth was fairly consistent in all categories: Watches and Jewelry did particularly well with 10 percent organic growth in the first nine months. Fashion and Leather Goods sales increased a respectable 5 percent. LVMH highlighted the success of Louis Vuitton and Fendi in particular, while dimly noting that Marc Jacobs and Donna Karan have "continued the repositioning of their collections." {LVMH}

Diane von Furstenberg in no hurry to IPO

In a recent interview with Adweek, Diane von Furstenberg stated that she is "very, very happy that the family owns the company 100 percent." Though she didn't rule out the possibility of an IPO entirely. {Adweek}

Snapchat CEO fronts the cover of L'Uomo Vogue

Fashion and technology are becoming more and more inseparable, and in the most recent (and surprising) instance of this, Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel landed the cover of L'Uomo Vogue. The tech mogul, who's currently dating model Miranda Kerr, poses in Bottega Veneta, Burberry and Dsquared for the Italian menswear glossy. {L'Uomo Vogue via The Hollywood Reporter}

Playboy will no longer have nudity

Starting in March, Playboy will no longer feature nude images of women. Yup, that's right. The magazine, which has a circulation of about 800,000, will feature less processed, more "PG-13" images instead, in an effort to compete with younger outlets like Vice. Will this strategy work? It might: According to executives, web traffic jumped from about 4 million to 16 million when the magazine's website got rid of nudity this August. {The New York Times}

Jessica Chastain is nearly unrecognizable on the cover of W

In the November issue of W, cover star Jessica Chastain talks about wanting to play a villain in a Bond movie and "waiting for that call." But to be perfectly honest, we couldn't get past the bright pink hair and dark brows she sported for the cover. {W}

Taylor Swift fronts Vogue Australia

In more cover news, Vogue Australia has tapped Taylor Swift for its November issue. Regarding her many famous friends, the 25-year-old revealed that: "A lot of the time I'll reach out to people to tell them they're great and a friendship will come out of them." Basically, compliments go a long way. {Vogue Australia}

Karl Lagerfeld defends Choupette's earnings
Karl Lagerfeld is a subject of endless fascination. For instance, after a French paper revealed that 82 percent of its readers were shocked by Choupette's earnings (around €3 million annually), the designer wrote a letter to the editor stating that he "was sorry to find that 82 percent of their readers were envious people." Oh, to have one of the most influential designers speaking up on your behalf. {T Magazine}

IMG signs Toby Cole, daughter of plus-size model Emme

Toby Cole has been signed on to IMG and will appear in Teen Vogue's November issue. Her mother Emme Cole became a successful plus-size model in the '90s. When asked whether or not Toby will be categorized as straight or plus-size, IMG responded: "Here at IMG we do not categorize the models as straight or plus, she will be put up for all age-appropriate work." Good answer! {WWD}

If based only on the widespread success of her "1989 Secret Sessions," Taylor Swift's hostessing prowess simply cannot be matched. The fashion industry powers that be seem to have recognized the 25-year-old pop star's party-throwing abilities, because on May 2, Swift will co-chair the 2016 Met Gala. A Vogue representative confirmed the news to Fashionista on Tuesday afternoon, and according to Vogue.com, the theme for next year's event, and the Costume Institute exhibition it celebrates, will be "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology." It will focus on "the dichotomy between handmade haute couture and machine-made fashion" — a relationship that remains particularly relevant in today's burgeoning fast fashion era.

The exhibit will display more than 100 pieces of couture and ready-to-wear items, and will juxtapose more classical techniques like embroidery and lacework with newer technologies such as laser cutting and thermo shaping. The show will also feature a number of "in process" workshops, including one in which a 3-D printer will be on display to guests while in use.

Swift will co-chair the Gala alongside Idris Elba, Anna Wintour and Apple's Chief Design Officer Jonathan Ive, with Nicolas Ghesquière, Karl Lagerfeld and Miuccia Prada acting as honorary event chairs.

A representative for the Metropolitan Museum of Art could not immediately be reached for comment.

Victoria's Secret is about to get an Italian rival

Italy-based Calzedonia Group, which owns Intimissimi lingerie, Calzedonia socks and Falconeri knitwear, will be opening stores in the US within the next couple of years, directly taking on Victoria's Secret parent company L Brands Inc. Calzedonia Group's billionaire owner Sandro Veronesi thinks that American women "would like to have an alternative" to the mass lingerie brand. We'll see if that's true. {Bloomberg Business}

Models need to slow downWriter Bernadette Morra is sick and tired of trying and failing to get the perfect runway photo — a sentiment that we at Fashionista totally understand. "I get that show producers like the energy of models racing down a runway to a thumping beat," she writes. "But what they gain in momentum, they lose in publicity." {Fashion Magazine}

Why Bernie Sanders's lack of dress sense works for him

Why does Bernie Sanders get away with looking rumpled and unkempt while other politicians can't? According to writer Paul Farhi, his age — and the lack of value or attention that society places on his physical appearance compared to women — allows him to make anti-fashion statements, which supporters then interpret as authenticity. {The Washington Post}

Nordstrom is aiming for $20 billion in sales by 2020

Long before its competitors, Nordstrom invested heavily in outlets,

e-commerce and mobile. Now the retailer is setting another big goal: $20 billion in annual sales by 2020. But some big challenges lie ahead, including the opening of a New York flagship, a costly gamble on Nordstrom's part. {WWD}

Lena Dunham working on a new show set in the '60s

Lena Dunham is currently working on "Max," a 1960s-era comedy about a journalist working in the midst of second-wave feminism. (Sounds very Dunham, no?) The pilot will be directed by Dunham and written by "Girls" writer/producer Murray Miller. But we're most excited about the period costumes. {The Hollywood Reporter}

The Full Balmain x H&M Look Book is Here, Officially:

Anticipation for #HMBalmainNation has been building ever since Jourdan Dunn and Kendall Jenner debuted head-to-toe looks from the collaboration alongside designer Olivier Rousteing at the Billboard Music Awards in May. Then just last week, 99 still life images of the collection leaked online before Instagram shut down the account from which they originated.

The look book only confirms what the leaked images revealed much to the Internet's approval: Balmain for H&M looks just like real Balmain, at least in pictures. Women's silhouettes are expectedly body-hugging and shoulders are pronounced. Pants are super voluminous or very tight. There's more velvet, baroque-style jacquard, dense beading, cord and metallic thread detailing than one would expect for the price point. Accessories include waist-cinching belts, thigh-high boots, embellished clutches, chandelier earrings and even headphones (not pictured below). The outerwear is the best part of the men's collection, featuring military-inspired double-breasted coats and zipper-covered leather jackets festooned with gold patches, trim or buttons. It's all gilded and gaudy and over-the-top — just like Balmain. And now that H&M has ventured into beauty, the collaboration also includes a limited edition fragrance.

See the complete Balmain x H&M look book below. You'll be able to shop the collection starting on Nov. 5 in 250 select H&M stores worldwide and online. The fragrance, however, won't launch until Dec. 5.

These are the stories making headlines this Thursday.

Lena Dunham covers Harper's Bazaar's "The Daring Issue"

Inside the November cover story for Harper's Bazaar, Lena Dunham speaks about turning 30, her long-distance relationship with boyfriend Jack Antonoff, wanting to cultivate her sense of social justice and, not surprisingly, her support for Hillary Clinton. She also poses topless, though she's looking uncharacteristically covered-up on the cover. {Harper's Bazaar}

H&M looks to India's middle class

Earlier this fall, Swedish retailer H&M opened its first Indian flagship store in New Delhi, five years after competitor Zara established itself in the market. So what took H&M so long? Aside from the costs of opening a flagship store, India did not allow global companies to have full ownership of their operations until January 2012. Plus, unique retail environment impacted by local cultural norms mean there are a number of factors that H&M will have to consider. {The Business of Fashion}

Ousted founder of Men's Wearhouse comes back with two digital start-ups

After being ousted by his own board in 2013, Men's Wearhouse founder George Zimmer is back with two start-ups: on-demand tailor service ZTailors and online tuxedo rental service Generation Tux. Both are catered towards millennials, a group that can't be bothered to deal with "old-fashioned suit fitting." Zimmer raised $50 million in funding between the two businesses this year. {Quartz}

DSTLD tests crowd investing through SeedInvest

Denim e-tailer DSTLD has so far received $10 million of interest from 2,117 people via SeedInvest, a crowdfunding site that allows anyone to invest in a company. (Think of it as a "mini IPO.") DSTLD is thereby taking advantage of recent changes to the JOBS Act, which now allows non-accredited investors to invest in companies without having to meet certain standards. {WWD}

H&M sales increase compared to last year

In more H&M news, the retailer's sales were up a healthy 11 percent this September compared to the same month last year. The brand opened about 400 stores during those 12 months, so we're not entirely surprised. {Fashionista Inbox}
