The first show of Awards Season is officially under our belts, and we must say that we were pleasantly surprised with the fashion that came down the red carpet at the Golden Globes on Sunday evening.

While these things can be a snooze-fest sartorially when celebrities try to play it safe, a number of our favorite A-listers went for high-fashion ensembles that we couldn't help but get excited over. From sexy, low-cut gowns like Jennifer Lopez's Zuhair Murad number and Jessica Chastain's Versace dress to directional, voluminous silhouettes like Jemima Kirke's Rosie Assoulin two-piece look, it was particularly difficult for us to choose our top 10.

After much deliberation, we narrowed the pool down to our favorite looks of the evening, which you can see in the gallery below. Did yours make the cut? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Naomi Watts entered the red carpet like a ray of sunshine in a bright yellow Gucci column gown, paired with a Bulgari diamond snake necklace. The actress always looks fantastic, and this ensemble is no exception. Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images

Diane Kruger stunned in this silver, perfectly tailored gown by Emilia Wickstead, an up-and-coming British designer. Simply paired with diamonds and a checkered box clutch, Kruger worked her sartorial magic once again with this look. Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images

Kate Hudson's white-hot Versace gown — perhaps a modern take on the label's signature safety pin dress — looks like it was sewn directly on to her (perfect) body. When she took the stage at the Golden Globes, Twitter exploded with commentary on how flawless the 35-year-old actress looked, and we can't really argue with them. She and this dress are stunning. We'll start with the best: The oft-awkward Lorde blew us away in a custom suit by Narciso Rodriguez (paired with a crop top!) and a 100 carat diamond bib necklace by Neil Lane. Her beauty look was just as good, with a slicked back ponytail and a cherry red lip. It's very grown up yet still goth adjacent, so looks like a more polished version of her everyday self. You go, girl!  Photo: George Pimentel/WireImage/Getty

Julianne Moore gushed on the red carpet about how lucky she felt to be able to wear this metallic custom Givenchy Couture gown to the Golden Globes, and boy, we don't blame her. Not only does this dress fit her flawlessly, the silver-to-black ombré sequins and feather details at the bottom take it into "fashion fantasy" territory. Well done, team Tisci. Emily Blunt's custom white Michael Kors gown is a bit simple in itself, but the styling — namely turquoise and diamond jewels and a sweetly braided hairstyle — take it up a few notches. Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images

Emma Stone and Alber Elbaz are a match made in heaven, so we immediately swooned when we saw the "Birdman" actress make her entrance in this sparkly jumpsuit (yes, they're pants!) by Lanvin, adorned with a giant bow. It doesn't get much cooler (or cuter) than this. Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images
