Awards season flew by this year, didn't it? When it came time for Hollywood's most glamorous night, we'd almost forgotten that everyone was going to dramatically step up their red carpet game, having clearly saved the best for last.

While we would have appreciated a little more risk-taking, we still had a hard time narrowing down the looks for our top ten best dressed list. Here's what did stand out: shimmery citrus tones on Emma Stone and Nicole Kidman, stunning plus ones like Joanna Newsom and Hannah Bagshawe and luxe textures like Rosamund Pike's floral embroidery and Lupita Nyong'o's unbelievable pearl gown.

See the gallery for the best dressed ladies at the 87th Annual Academy Awards, and let us know who we missed in the comments below.

If you don't know singer/songwriter Joanna Newsom already, please interrupt this slideshow and go listen to her music. Then take a moment to appreciate how expertly she paired fresh turquoise jewelry, a red lip and classic Hollywood waves with her delicate white Honor dress. Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images

Dakota Johnson has never been one for sartorial excitement, but this Saint Laurent red gown is simply perfect for the occasion. It's body conscious yet flattering, bold but easy. With its shiny beaded shoulder strap, it's an easy pick for the night's best dressed list. Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images9 of 10

Margot Robbie can sometimes veer in the direction of tacky — and this pose veers in the direction of annoying — but the combination of this Saint Laurent gown's long sleeves and plunging neckline with a distinctive statement necklace just works. Topped off with a deep side part, the effect is edgy and cool without relying on bells and whistles. Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images

We expected a major red carpet moment from Lupita Nyong'o at the Oscars, especially after a few lackluster looks at recent award shows, and she totally delivered. This custom Calvin Klein gown was made from 6,000 individual pearls of different sizes. The fabric itself is commendable, but so is the expert tailoring and revealing back. Is there anything Emma Stone can't pull off? The wasabi green color of this Elie Saab dress would be an unfortunate choice for many a young starlet, but against Emma's pale skin and reddish auburn hair, it looks stunning. The long sleeves balance out the more fun and sexy open back and the thigh slit, and the matching the matching green heels are the cherry on top. Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images2 of 10

Try to pry your eyes away from the dreamboat that is Eddie Redmayne and check out his civilian wife, Hannah Bagshawe. This Alexander McQueen dress has a simple Grecian aesthetic, made interesting by a sparkling belt with a feather peplum layer. It's elegant and youthful and memorable all at once. Pictures don't do justice to Peter Copping's first red carpet dress for Oscar de la Renta, as worn by Sienna Miller. It's dark but still dimensional in navy and black, and the partial lace skirt balances out the a prim uptown aesthetic of the bodice. With just a chunky bracelet and a simple up-do, the actress continues to put her boho phase firmly behind her. Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty Images
