Like many a fashion editor, we're pretty keen on Trademark, the structural, minimalist, color-friendly brand started by Chris Burch's daughters Pookie and Louisa Burch. (Seriously, I run into someone I know in the industry every time I walk into their Soho store. Hi Stephanie. And Sidney.) The label takes the most simple, basic garments and festoons them with a little magic: a white button-down with rainbow buttons, a turtleneck with a waffle knit collar, a roomy mandarin-collar shirt dress fastened at the neck with a horn button.
But what editors were largely crooning over during the label's fall 2015 collection preview Tuesday were the coats: A cocoon-gray number with scalloped cut-outs along the waist (shown above); a double-breasted brick red coat with a single line of buttons running down the center; a single-breasted black coat with a navy faux fur collar and a hidden, buttoned panel underneath, which promises to lend the wearer a little extra structure and warmth. There were trench coats, too, with shaggy faux fur collars and removable top panels, and an even shaggier faux fur coat in camel for the sartorially brave.
Also of note were the bucket bags, in glossy black and brown leather, which can be worn open over the shoulder or fastened together with a handle; a range of adorable dresses and separates with scalloped details; and, new for the brand, an animal print that was anything but loud in matte black and ivory on simply-cut garments.
