It makes sense that an Angel would have holy, err, holey jeans. Victoria’s Secret Angel Candice Swanepoel teamed with L.A. denim brand Mother for her first-ever turn as a designer, creating a ’90s-inspired capsule collection filled with denim pants and shorts (and cheeky tops that says “I Want to Swim in the Swanepoel“), out this month. “Wearing so many different styles throughout the years has given me a special insight on what looks good and what doesn’t,” the model told InStyle during the launch party in New York last week, where she modeled the “Angel With 100 Wings” ankle fray bottoms ($196). “These give you this girl-next-door look, like ‘I woke up like this,’ but not really.”

Our fave: The “Hijacking the Runway” slouchy roll-ups ($220). Each is hand-sanded, tinted for a sun-dried look, then finished with holes on the knees, pockets, waistband, and hem. “The holes are individually made by hand with a special sanding wheel,” explained Tim Kaeding, designer and co-founder of Mother. “It requires a very skilled person to do this process whereby only the top layer is removed exposing a bottom layer of threads.”

The South African model loves them, too, of course: “There’s something both playful and sexy about distressed denim,” she said. “There are times when I prefer to wear clean denim and other instances when I want something a little more roughed up, but either way I can safely say that denim is my go-to outfit if I’m in doubt of what to wear.” And she wants women to have that feeling, too. “As long as a woman feels confident, sexy and cool in her denim then it doesn’t really matter what fit she goes with,” she said.
