If you first discovered '70s fashion in the '90s, then you'll probably love Chloé's fall 2015 collection.
Chloé, in many ways, is the brand for young socials. Sunday's front row was filled with at least 30 of them, including Olivia Palermo and Poppy Delevingne. Many of these women grew up in the '90s, when patchwork bell bottoms and velvet were cool for the second time.
Creative Director Clare Waight Keller might’ve been thinking about the '70s when designing her downright bohemian fall collection. But I couldn’t help being transported to my teenage years, when velvet pants, vintage slip dresses and peasant blouses were once again in fashion. Iconic '70s band Fleetwood Mac dominated the runway soundtrack. No surprise, given that Stevie Nicks has played muse many times this season. But that band experienced a revival in the mid-'90s, too. "The Dance," its 1997 live reunion album, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard charts.
The fact that this collection -- from the light-wash denim jacket with a shearling collar to the wide-wale corduroy blazer -- made me nostalgic for a very specific time in my own life was a good thing. The '70s are so overdone that any sort of niche outlook on it is welcome. And I suspect that Waight Keller’s front row of cool girls -- who are probably fond of that era, too -- will embrace it.
