After a week of trying really hard to avoid "Game of Thrones" spoilers from the leaked episodes, I was excited to finally get to Sunday evening to watch the second installment of season five. This episode was all about traveling and making mistakes, not necessarily in that order. Jewelry was also an important theme, as it often is, either subtly or overtly, in "Game of Thrones." The most obvious example was the Cobragram (stealing that brilliant term from the New York Times' recap of the episode) featuring Myrcella's necklace that Oberyn's family, who is not quite over that awful head-bashing he received, sent as a warning to Cersei.
Let's look at the fashion from the episode, including what Arya, who is finally back on screen, is wearing:
Arya, Still in Rags
Photos of Arya with a makeover hit the internet prior to the season premiere (here if you want a sneak preview), but, alas, in episode two she is still wearing androgynous rags. Cute lace-up ankle boots though!Brienne Needs a Nap, Shampoo
Poor Brienne. No one wants to hang out with her except Podrick. She needs to head back to Tarth and do a hair mask and sleep in a bed for a good nine hours. She looks absolutely exhausted.Cersei Gets a Necklace in the Mail
Fashion and beauty PR companies like to send themed mailings to editors when they're introducing new products. Ellaria Sand, former lover of the now-deceased (wahhh!) Oberyn, blows these out of the water with her not-so-subtle cobra mailing featuring a necklace belonging to Cersei's daughter, Myrcella. Everyone gets the message, prompting Jaime to......Go Swashbuckler on Dorne's Ass
Jaime assures Cersei that he will somehow get their daughter Myrcella back, so he throws on his golden hand and this exceptionally natty jacket and goes to find Bronn, Tyrion's old sellsword, to help him.Bronn Likes Couples Dressing
Lollys, Bronn's betrothed is very cute, if slightly obsessed with wedding planning. The matching pale yellow hair and blouse is a nice touch, and Bronn is well coordinated with her in his patterned shirt.Ellaria Sand Projects Power Via Her Shoulder Pads
This outfit, obviously designed by the Thierry Mugler of Dorne, is perfection. The power shoulders, the leather harness -- it all sends a message that she is not messing around. She's also bobbed her hair, which is another sign that things are getting serious.Daenerys Shouldn't Wear White to a Beheading
We first saw this dress last week, when Daenerys wore it to go visit her dragons in the dungeon, but it looks different in the daylight. You can really appreciate the detail and scale-like (mother of dragons, get it?) texture on the dress here. While her dressing is on point, she needs to work on her leadership skills. Killing loyal subjects is not going to help you get more loyal subjects.Jaqen H'ghar, the Jared Leto of Braavos
Woohoo, Jaqen, or "No one," as he prefers to be called now, makes a return, and I am LOVING his red ombré. He's a mysterious Jared Letoian character who will surely teach Arya a lot.- FASHION WEEK - USA Fashion and Music News
