If you had any doubt that Los Angeles is quickly becoming the next fashion capital of the world, here's some more proof: On Thursday night, Christopher Bailey and his Burberry crew put on a massive runway show at the Griffith Observatory to celebrate the opening of the brand's Rodeo Drive store, as well as to give Hollywood a taste of its British heritage.
The luxury label pulled out all of the stops when it came to bringing the best of London to the West Coast, going so far as to recreate an English garden (inspired Royal Parks of London) for guests to enter through and flying in the First Battalion Grenadier Guards — who marched down the runway with drums and flutes — to lead the closing procession down the runway.
Burberry always takes care to assemble a noteworthy front row, which this time included the Beckham brood, Elton John, Kate Beckinsale, January Jones, Rose Byrne and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, among others. Collectively, they may not have the star power Tom Ford was able to attract to his L.A. show during Oscars weekend, but it was nonetheless an impressive crowd.
Many of the looks that were presented were from the fall 2015 collection that debuted in London during Fashion Month, with an exclusive series of evening looks to close the show. Burberry favorites like Jourdan Dunn, Malaika Firth and Naomi Campbell walked, as did James Corden — the British comedian who's set to host the 2015 CFDA Awards — who surprised the audience with his appearance during the runway finale.
Burberry, a known early adopter of new technology and social media channels, made its official debut on Periscope to broadcast the show live to fans around the world. The label also captured the journey from London to L.A. on Snapchat, with occasional "takeovers" from the likes of Cara Delevingne and Campbell.
With the proliferation of designers showing around L.A. in recent months — Nicolas Ghesquière is up next with the Louis Vuitton Cruise show in Palm Springs — we're very interested to see how the fashion landscape out West continues to evolve. One thing's for sure: Ford and Bailey have set the bar for shows pretty high. Click through the gallery below for scenes from the event and the best-dressed attendees.
