At the Jeffrey Fashion Cares event Monday night, we took the opportunity to ask CFDA CEO Steven Kolb if he had any insider info on where the tents will be heading this coming September.
"That’s definitely a question for the folks at IMG," Kolb said. "All I can say is I think they’re very, very darn close to making an announcement very, very soon."
According to a report in WWD in February, IMG has narrowed down the list to a few downtown locations: Skylight at Moynihan Station, which is the historic James A. Farley Post Office on West 33rd Street; Skylight Clarkson Sq., which will host the men's shows in its 70,000-square foot-downtown space in July, and a Tribeca pier, which would entail installing yet another set of tents and infrastructure.
Kolb, for his part, said he'd like IMG to secure a place that expresses the personality of the city. "I think there are so many cool spaces in New York, and for a big city like this there are just so many opportunities," he said. "I think that if they can land somewhere that connects to the energy, the personality of New York, and incorporate that into the overall production and presentation, that to me is interesting. Not necessarily fabricate something and plop it into this city, but build something within the city and use the city as its venue. As a venue."
Representatives from IMG did not immediately respond to request for comment.
