The Do’s and Don’ts of Wearing Seventies Flares Like a Supermodel

The Do’s and Don’ts of Wearing Seventies Flares Like a Supermodel:

Every other season, floor-grazing, wide-leg pants fall back into the fashion lexicon, and for good reason.  Their silhouette is long and lean, giving you both the drama of a statement skirt and the the casual, effortlessly cool appeal of your favorite boyfriend jeans.   Now, thanks to spring’s romance with all things seventies, models like Alessandra Ambrosio and Gisele Bündchen are embracing the retro-style once again, giving us all the more reason to ditch our skinnies this spring.  Taking a cue from their on-point style, we’ve put together a master list of the do’s and don’ts to wearing seventies flares like a top model, because let’s face it, nobody wears them better than these ladies.  Scroll through the photos below and get a jump on spring’s hottest denim trend today!

1. DO try one of this season’s new distressed pairs a la Alessandra Ambrosio

While we were quick to embrace seventies flares for their ability to add polish to even the most basic white tee, we’re loving the modern, distressed style spotted on Alessandra Ambrosio at LAX airport earlier this month.  With slight tears and just the lightest bit of fraying at the hemlines, Alessandra’s J Brand 1177 Low-Rise Martini Jeans offer a fresh, laid-back approach to the throwback style.

2. DON’T forget the heels!

One of the great benefits of flared jeans is their ability to make your legs look a million times longer, an effect that is achieved by slipping into your highest shoes.  The style looks best when you find them in a length that reaches at least four inches beyond your actual heels, so that is barely skims the ground in your tallest shoes (see Chrissy Teigen above).  We suggest opting for a stacked platform or a heeled bootie for both style and comfort.

3. DO embrace a simple, middle hair part

Just as important as the style of denim that you choose is the beauty look that you pair with it.  In Paris, Poppy Delevingne was spotted channeling the cult classic Almost Famous with with finger-raked curls, oversize square frames, a frothy fur jacket, and dramatic wide-leg flares.  The look offers a refreshing take on the overly-styled ‘dos of the pant’s original era, and fits perfectly into our effortless summer beauty regimen.

4. DON’T feel the need to go full-on bohemian

Boho style not your thing?  Take a cue from Gisele Bündchen and opt for a pared-back, tonal ensemble that marries a seventies-inspired sense of romanticism and a simple palette for a similarly elegant and modern image.
