The "Hunger Games" movie series might live on after "Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2" via prequels.

Lionsgate, the studio behind the hit movie franchise based on Suzanne Collins' book series, has teased that new movies from the world of Panem might come in the near future. However, Jennifer Lawrence, who played lead character Katniss Everdeen in the franchise, thinks the move is "too soon."

When asked if she will be part of the upcoming projects, Lawrence told Variety: "I woudn't be involved. I think it's too soon. They've got to let the body get cold, in my opinion."

Francis Lawrence, who directed "Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2," even assured fans the the film will be shot in a way that fans will know that it is the end of the franchise.

Speaking with MTV, the director said: "I have to say, the end, there's something great about this; that there's real closure. We're not ending with the promise of another movie, this is the final one. You feel it, and there's something satisfying about that. I think it's really emotional and moving."

Lionsgate Vice Chairman Michael Burns announced during the UBS Global Media and Communications Conference that the franchise "will live on and on" in the form of prequels, according to Variety.

"Whatever extensions of 'The Hunger Games' brand we pursue, the intent is not to glorify violence by artbitrarily telling arena stories," Burns said. "But to continue Suzanne Collins's exploration of the concepts of just war theory."

Lionsgate head Jon Feltheimer first teased more projects based on Collins's series during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year.

"We're always looking for ways to extend all of our intellectual property," he said. "We've seen that what happened with 'Harry Potter' and 'The Lord of the Rings.' So we're always looking for worlds within the IP that we haven't explored yet."

The executive continued: "If you look at 'Divergent,' for example, after the third book, [author Veronica Roth] actually put out a novella called 'Four.' There may be other material there. One never knows when we dig into the treasure troves of these brilliant writers what we might find."
