Miranda Lambert Surprises at Ashley Monroe Show: The Ram Report

Miranda Lambert Surprises at Ashley Monroe Show: The Ram Report:

When Ashley Monroe previewed her new album The Blade live onstage in Nashville last summer, Miranda Lambert was visibly in the audience, even hopping onstage after the SiriusXM radio-broadcast portion of the night to sing "Heart Like Mine." During Monroe's headlining show this weekend at Nashville club City Winery, Lambert reprised her appearance, surprising fans at the sold-out gig.

Once again, the longtime friends and collaborators sang "Heart Like Mine," which they wrote together and was a Number One hit for Lambert. But it was their performance of "The Blade," the gorgeous title track about love gone bad, that was most poignant, with its chorus of "you caught it by the handle, and I caught it by the blade."

Despite the absence of Angaleena Presley (who actually appeared at the same venue last night to sing "It Makes No Difference" during a Last Waltz tribute concert benefitting Nashville's Musicians Corner), seeing Lambert and Monroe together onstage raises more hopes of a Pistol Annies reunion. The whole trad-country trio did reunite for a performance during Lambert's recent Roadside Bars and Pink Guitars Tour, but aside from some comments by Monroe in the press about "missing each other a lot," there's been no further activity. The group's last album was Annie Up, released in 2013.
