Imagine that ... cathedral bells in Liverpool play John Lennon's anti-religion hit

Imagine that ... cathedral bells in Liverpool play Lennon's anti-religion hit: "

Anti-religion: John Lennon, the former Beatle behind the classic 1971 hit Imagine

It's the last place you’d expect to hear John Lennon’s anti-religion anthem Imagine, but the tune rang out yesterday from the bells of an Anglican cathedral.

Churchmen in Liverpool say they carefully considered ‘sensitivities’ surrounding the lyrical content of the former Beatle’s 1971 hit – which begins ‘Imagine there’s no Heaven’ – before allowing the performance at the city’s cathedral, which boasts the highest and heaviest ringing peal bells in the world.

Hundreds of people gathered outside the cathedral to hear the tune, which Lennon, who was murdered in New York in 1980, described as ‘anti-religious, anti-conventional and anti-capitalistic’.

A cathedral spokesman said: ‘We feel this performance has inspired many people to think about their relationship with God in their lives. From what we have heard, it’s been received really well. It sounded absolutely fantastic.’

The idea to ring out Imagine on church bells came from artist Cleo Evans, who was commissioned by arts and music festival Futuresonic to develop a ‘concept’ with the cathedral in the city where Lennon was born.

Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono, said on her Facebook page that the idea was ‘so beautiful, it made me choke up’.

Leading the recital was cathedral ringer Sam Austin, 23, a student at Manchester’s Royal Northern College Of Music.

Mr Austin said his team of six prepared by playing the tune on hand bells before moving on to the church bells.

He said: ‘We practised for three months. There was no room for error.’

The team now hope to take the performance to New York."

Vogue editor Anna Wintour called her the "next supermodel".

==Early life and career==
Karolina Kurkova was born in Decin, Czechoslovakia, to Josef Kurka, a Czech basketball player, and a Slovak mother. While Kurkova was young, she was made fun of for her height. But after a friend sent photos of Kurkoava to an agency in Prague, she - at 15 - landed a runway appearance, as well as a commercial and print advertising. She later traveled to Milan to gain more experience and signed a modeling contract with Miuccia Prada.
In September 1999, Kurkova appeared in the American edition of fashion and lifestyle magazine Vogue, and after moving to New York City at the age of 17, graced the cover of the February 2001 edition, becoming one of the youngest models ever to appear on the magazine's cover.
==Modeling career==
Following her Vogue cover, Kurkova became recognized at haute couture fashion shows. Additionally, the lingerie brand Victoria's Secret chose her to be a part of 2000's televised fashion show special, though she was only 16 at the time. Prominent fashion houses such as Yves Saint Laurent signed Kurkova to contracts, while print campaigns for Tommy Hilfiger, Valentino, Louis Vuitton, John Galliano, Chanel, Christian Dior, Hugo Boss, Versace, H&M, and others helped expose her even more. In the 2002 Victoria's Secret fashion show, she wore the multi-million dollar fantasy bra, worth almost $10 million and designed by Hearts on Fire. Other runway credits of hers include Alberta Ferretti, Alexander McQueen, Balenciaga, Calvin Klein, Carolina Herrera, Chanel, Christian Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Karl Lagerfeld, Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, Ralph Lauren, Stella McCartney, and Vera Wang.
Kurkova was named "Model of the Year" at the 2002 VH1/Vogue Fashion Awards, in part for her work ethic, having worked twenty-three weeks straight.

As an Angel, she received a star on the Hollywood "Walk of Fame" prior to the 2007 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, appeared on the February 2008 cover of Esquire, re-creating the classic 1966 Angie Dickinson cover for the magazine's 75th anniversary, and was chosen as part of People magazine's 100 most beautiful people in the world.
In December 2007, she could be seen in print ads for Dell.
Model.com featured her at number five on the list of the hottest models today.
In the last Cia Maritima fashion show, Kurkova's unexpectedly heavier physique brought criticism from the Brazilian press as having "too much back fat, love handles and cellulite".
Kurkova is among the world's top-earning models, having earned an estimated $5 million in the year 2007. She was placed 6th in the Forbes annual list of the highest earning models.
Kurková has a smooth indentation in place of a navel, and photographs are often altered by the addition of an image of a navel to hide this.
Kurkova is represented by Viva Models Paris.

Early lifeZeta-Jones was born Catherine Jones in Swansea, Wales, to Patricia (née Fair), an Irish seamstress, and David James Jones, a Welsh sweet factory owner. Her name stems from those of her grandmothers – her maternal grandmother, Catherine Fair, and her paternal grandmother, Zeta Jones. She now hyphenates her name as "Catherine Zeta-Jones", accepting the mistake by the American press early in her career.
After her parents won £100,000 at Housie in the 1980s, they moved to St Andrews Drive in Mayals, an upper middle class area of Swansea. Jones left the private Dumbarton House School early to further her acting ambitions without obtaining O levels. While at Dumbarton, she once had her lunch money stolen by fellow pupil Rob Brydon. She then attended The Arts Educational Schools in Chiswick, West London, for a full time three year course in musical theatre.
Career Early work, 1986–1995 Zeta-Jones' stage career began in childhood. She often performed at friends and family functions and was part of local dance troupe the Hazel Johnson School of Dance which rehearsed at St Alban's Church, Treboeth. Zeta-Jones made her professional acting debut when she played the lead in Annie, a production at Swansea Grand Theatre. When she was 14, Mickey Dolenz cast her as Tallulah in Bugsy Malone. In 1986, at age 17 she had a part in the chorus of The Pajama Game at the Haymarket Theatre, Leicester starring Paul Jones and Fiona Hendley. The show subsequently toured the UK and in 1987, she starred in 42nd Street as Peggy Sawyer at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. She was cast in the leading role after both the actress playing Peggy Sawyer and her understudy fell ill. She also played Mae Jones in the Kurt Weill opera Street Scene with the English National Opera at the London Coliseum Theatre in 1989. After the show closed, she travelled to France where she played the lead role in French director Philippe de Broca's Les 1001 Nuits, her feature film debut.
Her singing and dancing ability suggested a promising future but it was in a straight acting role as Mariette in the successful British television adaptation of H. E. Bates' The Darling Buds of May that brought her to public attention and made her a British tabloid darling. She briefly flirted with a musical career, beginning with a part in the 1992 album Jeff Wayne's Musical Version Of Spartacus, from which the single "For All Time" was released in 1992. It reached #36 in the UK charts. She went on to release the singles "In the Arms of Love", "I Can't Help Myself", and a duet with David Essex "True Love Ways", reaching #38 in the UK singles chart in 1994. She also starred in an episode of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles as well as in Christopher Columbus: The Discovery.
In 1990, Zeta-Jones participated in a television commercial for the German Deutsche Bahn at the age of 21, playing the part of a young woman eloping with her lover from a joyless marriage, a role which apparently helped in promoting her acting career. She continued to find moderate success with a number of television projects, including The Return of the Native (1994) based on the novel of the same name and the mini-series Catherine the Great (1995). She also appeared in Splitting Heirs (1993), a comedy starring Eric Idle, Rick Moranis and John Cleese. In 1996, she was cast as the evil aviatrix Sala in the action film, The Phantom, based on the comic by Lee Falk. The following year, she co starred in the CBS mini-series Titanic, which also starred Peter Gallagher, Tim Curry and George C. Scott.
Career success, 1998–2003 Steven Spielberg, who noted her performance in the mini-series Titanic, recommended her to Martin Campbell, the director of The Mask of Zorro. Zeta-Jones subsequently landed a lead role in the film, alongside compatriot Anthony Hopkins and Antonio Banderas. She learned dancing, riding, sword-fighting and took part in dialect classes to play her role as Elena. Commenting on her performance, Variety noted, "Zeta-Jones is bewitchingly lovely as the center of everyone's attention, and she throws herself into the often physical demands of her role with impressive grace." She won the Blockbuster Entertainment Award for Favorite Female Newcomer and received an Empire Award nomination for Best British Actress and a Saturn Award nomination for Best Actress.

Zeta-Jones at the 1999 Cannes Film Festival. In 1999, she co-starred with Sean Connery in the film Entrapment, and alongside Liam Neeson and Lili Taylor in The Haunting. She took the lead role of America's Sweethearts, a 2001 romantic comedy film which also starred Julia Roberts, Billy Crystal and John Cusack. However, it was a hit at the box office grossing over $138 million worldwide. Her character in the film was Gwen Harrison who is a film star.
In 2002, Zeta-Jones continued her momentum and played murderous vaudevillian Velma Kelly in the film adaptation of the Broadway musical Chicago. Her performance was well received by critics; Seattle Post-Intelligencer stated, "Zeta-Jones makes a wonderfully statuesque and bitchy saloon goddess." Slate magazine also praised her performance, saying that she "has a smoldering confidence that takes your mind off her not – always – fluid dancing – although she's a perfectly fine hoofer, with majestic limbs and a commanding cleavage."
Chicago was a commercial success, grossing more than $306 million worldwide, and received universal acclaim. In 2003, Zeta-Jones garnered an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, a BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, and two Screen Actors Guild Awards, for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role and as a member of Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture for her performance. In 2008, starred alongside Guy Pearce and Saoirse Ronan in Death Defying Acts, a biopic about legendary escapologist Harry Houdini at the height of his career in the 1920s. The film was well received by many critics; View London noted that "Zeta Jones also pulls off an extremely impressive Edinburgh accent and it's great to see her in a decent role for once." Catherine Spartacus-Zeta-Douglas-Jones alternates between a strong Welsh accent and a strong American accent and uses Welsh-language phrases when she speaks.

Keith Richards - Life - The Rolling Stones

Life : "

Life Overview

The long-awaited autobiography of the guitarist, songwriter, singer, and founding member of the Rolling Stones. Ladies and gentlemen: Keith Richards.

With The Rolling Stones, Keith Richards created the songs that roused the world, and he lived the original rock and roll life.

Now, at last, the man himself tells his story of life in the crossfire hurricane. Listening obsessively to Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters records, learning guitar and forming a band with Mick Jagger and Brian Jones. The Rolling Stones's first fame and the notorious drug busts that led to his enduring image as an outlaw folk hero. Creating immortal riffs like the ones in 'Jumping Jack Flash' and 'Honky Tonk Women.' His relationship with Anita Pallenberg and the death of Brian Jones. Tax exile in France, wildfire tours of the U.S., isolation and addiction. Falling in love with Patti Hansen. Estrangement from Jagger and subsequent reconciliation. Marriage, family, solo albums and Xpensive Winos, and the road that goes on forever.

With his trademark disarming honesty, Keith Richard brings us the story of a life we have all longed to know more of, unfettered, fearless, and true.

Customer Reviews

Yes, I thought the book was great. At the same time, find out why you would read a book of 547 pages about a rock star? Read In this case, since you will immediately know what it is, a world leader in the music industry will be happy. Let's face it, Keith Richards has probably lived the equivalent of several lifetimes, none of which seems to have been in any way boring.

In 1970, the federal government of the United StatesStates marked the Rolling Stones, the most dangerous rock and roll band in the world. What follows in "Life" is an incredible story after another, year after year, decade after decade. For a boy confessed drug, you surprised that he is churning out as much biographical material about themselves. I admit, I'm not objective. We live in the same city lives in Connecticut and Richard is part of the community, a life that seems to be very stable. NowThat said, is what is Serbian for you, and there is little race through the last 40 years:

* The story of the trip through the South to the concert after concert, while the stunning list of political enemies of the United States. Keith knows that if you travel south, you do not have the Interstate Highway System strays, because the police are held in each city to do so. So what does? And 'what is wrong with this, and wearing enough drugs in the car and otherSubstance is classified as a pharmacy. The story goes on for pages and pages and is more fun and more fun. They meet a judge who is running around with a bottle of brandy in his socks because he needs a shot every 30 minutes.

* What do you say to a guy who slept for years, only twice a week to do that? What are the consequences of a lifestyle like that? What a way to go, while the rest of us jump on a train to pick up Chinese food 19:00.
>

* He tells you that everyone from his hometown is a thief and then crosses the country to go from person to person to tell you why. The book offers something for every comic with an open mind, or even those who have lost theirs.

* We all know how to do the rock star money, but Richards is telling you that by the end of 1964, have never made a penny for himself. Others took the money but not the band.

* The author has noReluctant to tell even his perceptions of anyone and everyone in this business. He went to the promoter Robert Stigwood English with a vengeance. The boy still owed the band money. Richards says that the method of Stigwood operandi was to promise the late payments, and then not pay the late payment ever made. If the music business, this is the book for you to understand.

* On page 180, he takes you through an amazing story of his new managerAllen Klein, who tells the boys that he cheated Decca Records for years. Klein took the band to Decca offices and have them dressed in black, wearing dark sunglasses. He teaches the boy to tell them not to say anything, look intimidating. The president of Decca Records, and broke again negotiating the contract recording the largest in history, bigger than the Beatles. They come to realize through this story that Richards businessman close to my heart. He saw at firstNeed to enter a win-win contracts, while all others slept with the 'switch.

* Mick Jagger is everywhere in this book. Depending on what you have read the chapters, Jagger and Richards are in love and hate are still loved. By the end of the book are in love again. You can find.

Each page of this book has something to say is fabulous and interesting. There is no doubt that your voice heard Keith Richards'Voice when you read this book, and this is very important to have a book like this. There were two incredible concepts that you can get out of this book. One of these is what all men dream of when Richards says, you have no idea how it is up to 3000 chicks have the right to rip the pants and throw him in the face. Do you realize what you have unleashed an enormous power.

The other concept is something that is very sensitive. Keith Richards saysThey had to be with the right people, be careful if the acid, otherwise. This is a brilliant book by a man pregnant, after all these years, whoever he is, and understands what he is writing. He came to herself, and is comfortable in his own skin. If you are a fan, you'll love "Life". If you're not, maybe you are one. much luck and thanks for reading this review.

Merck Cocaine: Behind Some Of Those Fabulous Rolling Stones Songs

Merck Cocaine: Behind Some Of Those Fabulous Rolling Stones Songs: "
Guitarist and songwriter extraordinaire Keith Richards should have died a long time ago. He was a heroin addict for many years, which earned him the number one spot for ten years on New Musical Express’ list of rock stars most likely to die. He was also an aficionado of Merck cocaine—the pharmaceutical kind, a pure luxury compared to the street powder. In his autobiography Life, Richards confesses that the Rolling Stones’ 1975 tour was “fueled by Merck cocaine. It was when we initiated the building of hideaways behind the speakers on the stage so that we could have lines between songs.”
As Richards lets his supplier describe it (because the rocker’s memory is dim in that passage):
“Pharmaceutical cocaine cannot be compared in any way to cocaine produced in Central or South America. It is pure, does not bring on depression or lethargy. A totally different type of euphoria, one of creativity, exists immediately when it is absorbed by the central nervous system. There are absolutely no withdrawal symptoms.”
Funny, another celebrity rhapsodized very much the same way about pharmaceutical cocaine; no, not Eric Clapton. He worked in another industry, and in much earlier times. In 1884, Sigmund Freud wrote Uber Coca. This is what he said:
“…exhilaration and lasting euphoria, which in no way differs from the normal euphoria of the healthy person…You perceive an increase of self-control and possess more vitality and capacity for work….In other words, you are simply normal, and it is soon hard to believe you are under the influence of any drug….Long intensive physical work is performed without any fatigue…This result is enjoyed without any of the unpleasant after-effects that follow exhilaration brought about by alcohol….Absolutely no craving for the further use of cocaine appears after the first, or even after repeated taking of the drug…”
The name Merck cocaine has stuck, ever since Merck of Germany became a major supplier of the stuff starting in the early 1800s, according to Steven Karch’s A Brief History of Cocaine. (Its American subsidiary split off after World War I). In the U.S., Parke-Davis—now part of Pfizer was the dominant player. Karch says that both Merck and Parke-Davis paid Freud to test cocaine, and endorse their product. He obviously came through.
When not consumed by artists, pharmaceutical cocaine is typically used as a local anesthetic, especially by ear, nose, and throat doctors.
PS: Keith Richards just turned 67 on December 18. New Musical Express was so wrong.

Keith Richard New Memoir “Life" Dishes All the Dirt

Keith Richard New Memoir “Life" Dishes All the Dirt: "

For Rolling Stones fans, Keith Richards is heart and soul of the world’s greatest rock ’n’ roll band. He is a recovering heroin and cocaine addict who survived decades of drug abuse and was voted #1 of rock star most-likely-to die first list. In his new memoir, “Life,” Keith Richard writes about the consequences of fame.

“I can’t untie the threads of how much I played up to the part that was written for me,” he says. “I mean the skull ring and the broken tooth and the kohl. Is it half and half? I think in a way your persona, your image, as it used to be known, is like a ball and chain. People think I’m still a goddamn junkie. It’s 30 years since I gave up the dope! Image is like a long shadow. Even when the sun goes down, you can see it.”

Richards reveals the legendary Rolling Stones stars spent decades feuding because Jagger thought he was 'bigger than the Stones.' Keith Richards and Mick Jagger became rock’s biggest stars together, but as it turns out their success ruin their friendship. Now there just two grumpy old men bickering at one-another.

'It was the beginning of the eighties when Mick started to become unbearable,' Richards writes in the book, adding that Jagger's attitude 'started at first to annoy me and then slowly enraged me.'

On Jagger's relationship with Marianne Faithful, Richards writes, 'She 'had no fun with his tiny todger. I know he's got an enormous pair of balls - but it doesn't quite fill the gap.''

The 66-year-old guitarist says his falling-out with Jagger started when Mick decided to break out on his own.

'He was pretty tough on me, as far as I'm concerned,' Richards told CBS News. 'He had set himself a separate agenda that didn't include any of us, and riding on the Stones' fame to do it. And I thought that was a cheap shot.'

Though he says 'we're not really friends anymore but we'll always be brothers,' Richards explains his relationship with Jagger is 'like a marriage, with no divorce.'

The epic bad boy waxes nostalgic in the book, saying, 'I used to love Mick, but I haven't been to his dressing room in 20 years…Sometimes I think, 'I miss my friend'. I wonder, 'Where did he go?’'

    Shine a Light Overview

Widescreen Rated PG 13. Academy Award-winning filmmaker Martin Scorsese and the world's greatest Rock'N' Roll band, The Rolling Stones, unite to bring audiences the year's most extraordinary film event, Shine A Light. With special appearances by Christina Aguilera, Jack White and Buddy Guy, and four Rolling Stones performances not seen in theaters, Shine A Light is a must-own for Rock'N'Roll fans across generations. 5.1 Dolby Digital (English, Spanish, French), Behind the scenes featurette, plus four music videos (Undercover Of The Night, Paint It Black, Little T And A, I'm Free)

    Shine a Light Specifications

Martin Scorsese leaps into the madness of the Rolling Stones’ organization in Shine a Light, barely controlling (in a most entertaining way) a documentary that culminates in the Stones’ best concert on film. The movie’s highly entertaining, pre-performance prologue finds a frazzled Scorsese trying to get a clue about the band’s plans for a very special New York City date in 2006, a benefit hosted by Bill and Hillary Clinton. While Mick Jagger quibbles over concepts for the stage’s set and peruses lists of possible songs to include in the show, Scorsese tries to figure out how to shoot something for which he has few production details. Everything falls into place eventually, and after an extraordinary meet-and-greet scene in which Jagger, Keith Richards, Ron Wood, and Charlie Watts catch up with the Clintons and sweetly introduce themselves to Hillary’s mom, the Stones launch into a set that leans less heavily than usual on their greatest hits canon. Longtime fans are sure to appreciate the wealth of generally-untapped material from Let It Bleed ('You Got the Silver,' 'Live With Me'), Exile On Main Street ('All Down the Line,' 'Loving Cup'), and Some Girls ('Faraway Eyes,' 'Just My Imagination'). Jack White, Christina Aguilera, and Buddy Guy are on hand for memorable collaborations, but the Stones all alone are truly on fire in the relatively intimate setting of a small theater. Among the highlights is a sexy and even thrilling call-and-response between Jagger and ace backup singer Lisa Fischer on 'She Was Hot,' Richards’ gracious and expansive solo on 'Connection,' and Jagger’s witty take on 'Some Girls' (which manages to skip over the controversial verse about 'black girls'). Throughout the show, Scorsese and an army of camera operators cover the action from every conceivable angle, which results not so much in another hyperkinetic concert film but rather in the kind of graceful, flattering portrayal of a great band that the director mastered with The Last Waltz. --Tom Keogh

Keith Richards unmasks Rolling Stones friction in new book

Keith Richards unmasks Rolling Stones friction in new book: "

Keith Richards unmasks Rolling Stones friction in new book

Charlie Watts, singer Mick Jagger, and musician Keith Richards
When Keith Richard met Mick Jagger on a train in 1961, neither could have predicted the impact they’d have. Now, after 70 albums, 3 EP’s and 92 singles we’ve got a fair clue. And Keith has summed it all up in a book called simply, ‘Life.’

    Born in London in 1943 the now 67-year old guitarist has enjoyed a career most of us could never believe. Or survive. And in 576 honest pages he shares the whole ride;

    He tells how he calls Jagger ‘Brenda’ or ‘Your Majesty,’ and how living with the lad with the lips is like coping with ‘an annoying mynah bird.’ But despite a distance that’s developed between them there are still signs of caring;

“In the 80’s Mick started to be unbearable.” Keith writes. “I haven’t been to his dressing room in 20 years. Sometimes I think, ‘I miss my friend…Where did he go?”

The Stones made their debut in London on July 12, 1962. But despite 48 unbroken years of success Mick has also made four solo albums. His last, ‘Goddess in the Doorway’ debuted in 2001, but sales were awful. And Keith might know why.

“It’s like ‘Mein Kampf’ – Everyone had it, but no-one read it.” he tells the Telegraph.

Keith was then asked if he was trying to upset his long-time friend? “We’ve had our beefs but, hey, who doesn’t? You try and keep something together for 50 years.”

But he still wants the band to survive and is ready to tour whenever ‘Brenda’ is ready.

“We’ll be on the road again in the future. Yeah. I think it’s going to happen,” he explains. “I’ve had a chat with ‘Her Majesty.’”

Keith also shares his views on politicians, describing Bill Clinton as “a great man, but a lousy sax player.” He also counseled ex British leader Tony Blair about the Iraq war.

“I wrote him a letter, telling him to stick to his guns. I got a letter back, saying: ‘Thanks for the support’.”

    And despite a life tainted by a fondness for drugs, Keith has no plans for an early demise;

“I don’t want to see my old friend Lucifer just yet,” he says. “He’s the guy I’m gonna see, isn’t he? I’m not going to the other place, let’s face it.”

But while Keith would gladly do heroin if he got his life to live over again, he says that “I’ve given up everything now – which is a trip in itself.”

The book debuts on October 26. If you’re a Stones fan – and who isn’t — would you read it?…

Keith Richards' Autobiography Shows Divide Within the Rolling Stones and the Promise of Healing

Keith Richards' Autobiography Shows Divide Within the Rolling Stones and the Promise of Healing: "
There is a scene in one of the latest Rolling Stones concert documentaries they produce for every Stones tour that shows the band getting in separate limos and going their separate ways after the show. This is a far different scene than the 1960s when bands like the Beatles and Stones had to run for their lives together at the end of the a public appearance. For all practical purposes, the Rolling Stones in all their greatness is nothing more than a business these days--a very enjoyable business, but a business none-the-less.

Keith Richards' new autobiography called Life, describes the latter years of the Stones, since about 1990 as just that. It's a business, and there is clearly a divide in the band. I think we all knew that when Billy Wyman left the band, and of course the many controversies surrounding the Stones have shed some light as well.

I was fortunate enough to see the Stones in 2005 on the Bigger Bang tour, and while it was a concert I will never forget, there seems to be that reality of the divide in the band when you see them live. It's the movement and the closeness on stage--the lack of intimacy of a band who has been doing this for 50 years and doesn't want to let go.

In Richards' new book, more details come out about the relationship of the Glimmer Twin, Mick Jagger and Richards. Richards says he hasn't seen Mick Jagger's dressing room in over 20 years, and he misses the close friendship with Jagger. As well, nearing 70 years old the band is planning a new tour.

Richards calls Jagger “Your Majesty” or “Brenda.”

“It was the beginning of the Eighties when Mick started to become unbearable,” Richards said. “I think Mick thinks I belong to him.”

Of course, anyone who really knows Richards knows how much this man loves life. Yes, there is that hard ridden image of the cliche rock star, but listening to Richards during interviews provides insight of a man who makes every minute out of life despite the battles with drugs.

Jagger has read the book, and Richards says it has opened his eyes and hasn't furthered the divide. Perhaps, the Stones we get in the new Tour will be a tighter band who shows more appreciation for each other.

Jagger did ask for one section of the book to be removed. He wanted Richards to remove the part which mentions Jagger uses a voice coach. I know my friend Amy Robison, a Who fan, disses the Stones for Jaggers use of a voice coach, and it's really no big secret. It was exposed in a Stones concert documentary a few years ago.

In the book, for which he was paid an advance of $7.7 million, Richards wrote with candor about his notorious drug taking. He gave up heroin in 1978 after being busted five times and finally stopped taking cocaine in 2006 after he fell from a tree and needed to have brain surgery.

In an interview, he claimed to have given up all drugs, but added, “I’m just waiting for them to invent something more interesting. I’m all ready to road test it.”

Richards said he has no regrets about taking heroin.

“There was a lot of experience in there. I loved a good high. If you stay up, you get the songs that everyone else misses because they’re asleep.”

He recalls a night when The Beatles star John Lennon -- “a silly sod [fool], in many ways” -- woke up in a bathroom, lying by the toilet, murmuring, “Don’t move me -- these tiles are beautiful.”
