Jackie Chan’s son released from jail after six months

Jackie Chan’s son released from jail after six months:

BEIJING -- The son of actor Jackie Chan was released from a Beijing jail Friday after completing a six-month sentence for allowing people to use marijuana in his apartment, amid a crackdown on illegal narcotics in the Chinese capital.

A statement issued by Jaycee Chan's entertainment company said the 32-year-old actor and singer left the city's Dongcheng jail a few minutes after midnight Thursday.

Photos showed chaotic scenes as reporters chased his car and surrounded it at a toll station.

The statement thanked fans and the media for their concern and said Chan would hold a news conference Saturday in order to "apologize and explain."

Police detained Chan, Taiwanese movie star Ko Kai and several other people in August in Chan's Beijing apartment. Chan and Ko tested positive for marijuana, and police seized more than 100 grams (3.5 ounces) of the substance. Ko, whose real name is Ko Chen-tung, was released after serving a 14-day administrative detention.

BOBBY YIP/REUTERS Jaycee Chan was released from jail a few minutes after midnight Thursday.
Chan could have been sentenced to as many as three years in prison, but the court showed leniency because he had confessed and showed contrition.

Jaycee Chan's arrest was a sensitive matter for his father because of Jackie Chan's high profile in China, including serving as an anti-drug ambassador and deputy to the top advisory board to China's legislature. The elder Chan has apologized for his son's actions and said the two would work together to mend his ways.

A number of celebrities have been caught up in Beijing's drug crackdown as the city tries to slow ballooning drug use. Police said more than 7,800 people were arrested last summer in Beijing in what was called the biggest anti-drug campaign in two decades.

Miranda Kerr is choosing herself first.

The 31-year-old sexy model graced the March covers of Australia's Harper's Bazaar and divulged details on why she is living life as a single gal.

"For the record, I'm single. What I'm trying to do right now, as I've always been the girl with the boyfriend, is to find that comfort within myself," the brunette beauty told the mag.

"Because it's quite easy to always look to other people to lift us up or make us feel better about ourselves," she continued.

"At the end of the day, it's really important to be comfortable with your own company and to feel good about that and not have to rely on anyone else."

Kerr split from husband Orlando Bloom in October 2013 after six years together. The two share 4-year-old son Flynn together.

She went on to dish to the mag about how the exes go about co-parenting.

"It's really nice that Orlando and I now live so close to each other, and it's a really good life for Flynn," Kerr said.

"I can't believe he turned four the other day. How quickly that time has gone. I look at him every day and say, 'You're just growing and growing' and 'Where has my little baby gone?' And he says, 'I'm here, Mama.' He's just become this little sponge, learning new words, and he comes out with the funniest things."

WOW Candice Swanepoel Talks Denim, the '90s and Supermodels Past and Future - Fashionista (blog)

Candice Swanepoel Talks Denim, the '90s and Supermodels Past and Future - Fashionista (blog):

Candice Swanepoel's schedule is pretty packed this time of year. While you can usually spot her walking the runway for the likes of Prabal Gurung, Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs and many more, she's reversed her role a bit this season. Instead of showing off another designer's clothing, she is presenting her own.

The model just unveiled her first denim line in collaboration with the Los Angeles-based label Mother, which includes seven '90s-inspired styles in light, vintage washes. The proceeds from Swanepoel's collection will benefit mothers2mothers, a non-profit organization based in the model's native South Africa that aims to stop the spread of HIV from mothers to their babies.

To celebrate her first turn as a designer, Swanepoel hosted a cocktail party at Locande Verde in Tribeca on Tuesday night, and as Fashionista's resident fangirl, I had to stop by and get the scoop on her collection — as well as its Russell James-shot look book. "The first picture that I came to for inspiration was Cindy Crawford in the Pepsi commercial — the one where the little kids are watching her. She gets out of the car and you can tell she’s not trying at all but looks super hot," Swanepoel says. "I was also inspired by a lot of Drew Barrymore’s old looks, when she had platinum hair and a dark lip and eyebrows. Some Karen Mulder inspiration — there’s so many gorgeous ‘90s denim images. Cindy Crawford in the old Calvin Klein campaigns, too."

The retro inspiration is clear throughout the collection, and (unsurprisingly) the silhouettes are quite bombshell-friendly. "My favorite ones are the high-waisted — that’s my go-to jean," the model explained. "I looked at all of my jeans that I love and basically perfected them. What was most important was the wash: I wanted them to look really vintage. My favorite pairs are the ones I’ve worn out, so much that my friends are like, ‘Damn, you need some new jeans!’ People make a lot of fake-looking ones, and I didn’t want that."

If you couldn't tell, Swanepoel is a big fan of fashion's current '90s revival, and much of her personal wardrobe is inspired by the decade. Aside from denim, she says that she lives for a good choker and loves wearing bodysuits instead of t-shirts. While we're on the topic of tees, her collection includes a cheeky one that reads, "I Want to Swim in the Swanepoel" (which I will 100% be wearing during Fashion Week, by the way), which is a more polished version of a bootleg tee her friend wore to visit her at a Victoria's Secret shoot in Paris. "He opened his jacket and he was wearing a t-shirt that said it — he’d just bought the letters and ironed them on, and I thought it was f*cking genius," she says. "Some people have laughed at me, but I said that if I am going to do a jeans line, I am going to make it cute and unique to me."

While her line was inspired by supermodels of the past, Swanepoel already has a few ideas about who the Cindy Crawfords of the future might be — including a young stunner who counts Swanepoel as one of her role models: Gigi Hadid. "[Hadid] is definitely one of the girls that I see that I think is going to be huge. The fact that she has so much experience with modeling from when she was a kid — you can see when someone is natural in front of the camera. She’s super bubbly and she’s got a great, full body. She’s exquisite." Could there be a future collaboration in the works for these two blonde beauties? We'll just have to wait and see.

Florence + The Machine Announces New Album, 'How Big How Blue How Beautiful'

Florence + The Machine Announces New Album, 'How Big How Blue How Beautiful': Florence + The Machine broke its silence earlier this week when the band debuted a new song, "How Big How Blue How Beautiful." Now, they revealed it's actually the first track off a new album by the same name, due June 2 via Republic Records.

florence

The song was the first Florence Welch wrote for the album, she said in a statement. "The trumpets at the end of that song -- that's what love feels like to me. An endless brass section that goes off into space. And it takes you with it. You're so up there. And that's what music feels like to me. You want it just to pour out endlessly, and it's the most amazing feeling."

Produced by Markus Dravs, the album features contributions from Paul Epworth, Kid Harpoon and John Hill. The first single, "What Kind of Man," debuted on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show on Thursday, and already has a video, directed by Vincent Haycock and choreographed by Ryan Heffington:

Here's the tracklist for "How Big How Blue How Beautiful":

"Queen of Peace"

"Various Storms & Saints"

Trademark Shows a Strong Coat Game for Fall 2015

Trademark Shows a Strong Coat Game for Fall 2015:

Like many a fashion editor, we're pretty keen on Trademark, the structural, minimalist, color-friendly brand started by Chris Burch's daughters Pookie and Louisa Burch. (Seriously, I run into someone I know in the industry every time I walk into their Soho store. Hi Stephanie. And Sidney.) The label takes the most simple, basic garments and festoons them with a little magic: a white button-down with rainbow buttons, a turtleneck with a waffle knit collar, a roomy mandarin-collar shirt dress fastened at the neck with a horn button.

But what editors were largely crooning over during the label's fall 2015 collection preview Tuesday were the coats: A cocoon-gray number with scalloped cut-outs along the waist (shown above); a double-breasted brick red coat with a single line of buttons running down the center; a single-breasted black coat with a navy faux fur collar and a hidden, buttoned panel underneath, which promises to lend the wearer a little extra structure and warmth. There were trench coats, too, with shaggy faux fur collars and removable top panels, and an even shaggier faux fur coat in camel for the sartorially brave.

Also of note were the bucket bags, in glossy black and brown leather, which can be worn open over the shoulder or fastened together with a handle; a range of adorable dresses and separates with scalloped details; and, new for the brand, an animal print that was anything but loud in matte black and ivory on simply-cut garments.

Gigi and Bella Hadid Get Their First Sisterly Editorial in 'Love'

Gigi and Bella Hadid Get Their First Sisterly Editorial in 'Love':

Aww! Photo: Sølve Sundsbø for 'Love' magazine
Aww! Photo: Sølve Sundsbø for 'Love' magazine
We have a suspicion that this week is going to be a big one for the Hadid family. Not only is 19-year-old Gigi rapidly approaching supermodel status and already a main fixture on the runways, but her 18-year-old sister Bella is working to fully establish herself in the industry as well. Before the siblings (presumably) take Fashion Month by storm, they're showing off their sisterly love in their first-ever editorial together in the latest issue of Love magazine, shot by Sølve Sundsbø, with styling by Robbie Spencer and the glossy's Editor in Chief Katie Grand.

The black and white shots are among our favorites that we've seen from the issue thus far (which has been teased ad nauseam online, specifically with those nude Kim Kardashian images) and both sisters are given the chance to show off their unique personalities in an accompanying interview. Bella shared that she's always been the tomboy, while Gigi was career-driven about the modeling thing from the get-go. But, through it all, they've been best buds. "We’ve always been super close," Bella tells the magazine of her older sister. "I mean, yeah, kids fight a lot and we’re a year and a half apart, and, me being the younger sister, I always wanted to hang out with her friends… But by the time we were 16 we were best friends."

To make the whole thing even cuter, the Hadids didn't even know that they would be shot together for this spread, and their agents kept it a secret from them until they arrived in London separately and were sent a single car to pick them up for what they thought were two different jobs. How sweet!

Head on over to Love's website for more, and you can pick up Issue 13 of the magazine on newsstands now. Also, should we start taking bets on how long before the Hadid sisters will make a runway appearance together?

Singer, fashion chameleon and Adidas collaborator Rita Ora rocks some seriously glamorous fringe and pink hair for the latest issue of Nylon. Regarding her role in the industry, she had only this to say: "You have amazing girls like Emma Watson—glamorous, gorgeous, clean, beautiful girls. But where’s that punk energy—that fun, crazy, respected but still like, ‘Shit, she’s just doing her thing’ person? That’s who I am!” {Nylon}

Pantone released its top 10 fall color list for women and men and it's very '70s. Colors include "reflecting pond," "dried herb," "oak buff" and "amethyst orchid." According to Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman, these colors give "people a sense of rootedness and grounding, similar to what people were feeling the need for in the seventies.” {WWD}

From February 20 to March 11, Ebay shoppers will be able to get their hands on pieces by designers who are part of the British Fashion Council's Contemporary initiative. The e-commerce company will be teaming up with the BFC for an online pop-up shop, which will include clutch bags and silk scarves from designers Alexis Barrell, Georgia Hardinge, Paper London, Prism and Zoe Jordan. {WWD}

E-commerce platform Fancy has found a new investor in Carlos Slim Domit, son of Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim and chairman of the board of directors of Grupo Sanborns. He participated in the online retailer's recent series D financing round. Although Grupo Carso declined to disclose the exact amount, a spokesman said that it views the social shopping platform as an important part of its e-commerce strategy. {Business of Fashion}

Charles Youssef Is Taking His Fledgling Line to the Next Level

Charles Youssef Is Taking His Fledgling Line to the Next Level:

Charles Youssef's fall 2015 presentation. Photo: Michael Loccisano/Getty Images
Charles Youssef made his New York Fashion Week debut last season with an impressive resumé, including degrees from Central Saint Martins and Parsons and senior design positions at Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and Gareth Pugh. Those distinctions alone made him "one to watch" and his small spring 2015 collection of easy-to-wear pieces with architectural and geometric elements was definitely appealing. But his fall 2015 presentation Wednesday offered confirmation that he's still going in the right direction.

For one, Youssef showed that he knows the importance of distinguishing himself and developing a signature. Those would be zig zags, seen in delicate appliqués used as stripes on skirts, or as more abstract lines on a dress; and architectural shapes in the form of boxy sweaters and jackets. "There will always be some sort of architectural shape exploration that happens every season," he explained. This season, his starting point was architect Tadao Ando's concrete staircases, which contributed to the zig zags, which he also wanted to look like cracks in the earth after an earthquake. Even with these unique, quirky touches, the whole collection felt wearable and desirable. Luxurious fabrics like wool crepe and silk organza kept things elevated. Credit for the moody cool girl styling goes to Kate Foley, whom Youssef calls his "muse." My favorite pieces were a a black and white coat with a zig zag trim at the shoulders and a dreamy/witchy partially sheer black gown.

In addition to establishing aesthetic signatures, Youssef is focused on growth. Having hired PR and sales teams and partnered with consultant Yasmin Sewell in Paris, he's set the stage to boost his visibility and retail accounts for fall, not that he's doing too bad with his spring collection. Barneys, a dream account for any young designer, picked up his collection as an exclusive.
