Gaga is giving some proceeds earned from the just-released 'Country Road Version' of her hit song to the gay-advocacy group GLSEN. By Jocelyn Vena
Late last month, Lady Gaga unveiled a guitar-searing, harmonica-infused, countrified version of her smash hit single, 'Born This Way,' via her Twitter account. Ten days after its debut, Gaga has officially released the track, and will donate some of the proceeds from the tune to charity.
A portion of the money earned from sales of 'Born This Way (Country Road Version)' will go to the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), which, according to the organization's website, 'strives to assure that each member of every school community is valued and respected regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression.'
The country remix of the hit song, which was co-produced by Gaga and Fernando Garibay, boasts some new lyrics that play up the track's twangy influences. Over picked mandolin accompaniment, Gaga sings, 'If I wanna make it country, baby, it's OK/ 'Cause I was born, I was born, I was born this way/ From London, Paris, Japan back to USA/ I was born on the road, I was born to be brave.'
In February, during a chat on Gayle King's talk show, Gaga confirmed that there would be two videos for 'Born This Way.' The Nick Knight-directed, sci-fi-influenced clip for the song's original version dropped at the tail end of February. Meanwhile, there's no word when or if Gaga will ever release a video for the 'stripped-down' country version of the track considering she just wrapped up work on her clip for Born This Way's second single, 'Judas.'

The opening minute or so of the 41st installment of Lady Gaga's Gagavision, the first edition of the pop superstar's video blog after a lengthy hiatus, shows her getting her makeup applied with a searing techno song playing as the soundtrack. As the close-up footage of Gaga's face gets rolling, words appear on the screen announcing, 'Music from Born This Way 5-23-11.'
But it's the end of the Gagavision episode that likely will excite the singer's fans the most, as it includes an announcement all of her Little Monsters have been waiting for — the release date for her next single, "Judas." As Gaga is shown dancing in rehearsals for the 'Judas' video, which she co-directed with her creative director, Laurieann Gibson, Mother Monster is heard in a voice-over saying, 'So that concludes Gagavision Number 41. 'Judas' is coming. Let the cultural baptism begin.' A message is then shown that reads, 'Judas April 19. If they were not who you were taught they would be, would you still believe?'
The Gagavision installment also gives fans a glimpse at what life is like for Gaga, sometimes in a grainy black-and-white documentary style similar to Madonna's 'Truth or Dare.' The video is filled with behind-the-scenes footage of Gaga, getting her makeup done, getting styled to do promo ('We should just wear a classic black suit all the time or just nudity,' she remarks as she checks herself in the mirror while wearing a partially see-through black outfit) and approaching a protestor at one of her Monster Ball tour stops.
The protestor, who is at the show handing out 'Get Out of Hell Free' cards, chides Gaga's because of her 'pervert ways.' When she lets him know that she believes in God and even went to Catholic school, he says to her, 'That's probably most of your problem is you got raised in a screwy religion.' Later on we see the singer again in front of a mirror as she comments about the man's seeming intolerance. 'It just makes me sad that my fans have to see that,' she says.
'Judas' will be the second single off Gaga's Born This Way album, which will be released on May 23. Promotion for the record will include a May 27 appearance on 'Good Morning America' that will kick off the show's summer concert series and the May 7 premiere of her highly anticipated HBO special, which was taped at New York's Madison Square Garden in February.

The typical awards show is packed with performances, celebrity appearances, red-carpet arrivals and, at some point, the presentations of the night's biggest prize, usually just before the credits roll.
The O Music Awards? Not so much. The first-ever edition of MTV Networks' latest awards extravaganza will take everything you know about awards galas, throw it in a blender, mash it up with an obscure black-and-white cartoon from the 1940s, add a Kanye West beat under it and maybe some adorable LOLcats and a snippet of 'Friday' on top, post it on Twitter and watch it go mega-viral.
Instead of just honoring the singers, songwriters, directors and producers who make our favorite digital-music products, the O Music Awards will dig deeper in such categories as Innovative Music Video, Fan Army FTW, Funniest Music Short, Innovative Artist, Must Follow Artist on Twitter, NSFW Music Video, Most Viral Dance, Best Independent Music Blog, Best Animal Performance, Best Performance Series and more to dig up the people behind your favorite online music and videos, professional, amateur or just plain awesome.
Voting begins Wednesday (April 6) on the O Music Awards website, and like the best viral memes, it will be simple, social and transparent, with fans encouraged to vote via social media through a mobile voting wap site. You can follow the top vote-getters in the categories on a real-time leader board in the run-up to the April 28 event. Performers and presenters will be announced in the coming weeks.
And unlike those other awards shows, the night's biggest trophy might be handed out before the broadcast, during it or even after, to keep the conversation going.
'There will be an event, but it won't be a traditional awards show with a host, audience and a bunch of celebrities,' promised Shannon Connolly, vice president of music strategy for the MTV Music Group. 'It will embody what the O Awards celebrates, which is being very interactive. We'll have live performances, mash-ups, collaborations and it will be a Web event that will take place not just on MTV Music Group sites.'
Lady Gaga and Odd Future's Tyler the Creator lead with three nominations each, followed by Kanye West, the Flaming Lips and Nicki Minaj with two nominations apiece. Additional nominated artists include Arcade Fire, Radiohead, Justin Bieber, Lil B, Wiz Khalifa, Robyn, OK Go, Katy Perry and iamwhoiam. Notable nominees include Antoine Dodson/ Gregory Brothers (Funniest Music Short), the Lonely Island (Funniest Music Short), Funny or Die (Funniest Music Short), 50 Cent, Rebecca Black and Bert (Favorite Animated GIF), the Hype Machine (Best Music Discovery Service), Pandora (Best Music Discovery Service), Tiny Desk Concerts (Best Performance Series), Gorilla vs. Bear (Best Independent Music Blog) and Marshall Jones (Best Music Hack).
Fans will definitely be front and center, with an entire category devoted to the Best Fan Cover, the most rabid online fan following (which will pit 30 Seconds to Mars' Echelon against the Beliebers, Katy Perry's Bandaids, Gaga's Little Monsters and the followers of My Chemical Romance, Nicki Minaj, Tokio Hotel, Wiz Khalifa, Rain and Rihanna). There are also nods to the Best Fan Forum, Best Music Hack and Best Animal Performance.
The Innovative Artist race is a tight one as well, including such nominees as the Flaming Lips, iamwhoiam, Kanye, Gaga, Lil B, Radiohead and Tyler the Creator. You'll have to choose between the Dougie, the Pony, Lil B's Cooking Dance and the 'Whip My Hair' boogie in the Most Viral Dance category.
In keeping with recent digital-music innovations from MTV Networks like MTV Hive and the Music Meter, Connolly said it was apparent that the time was right to create an awards show that moved at the speed of the Net. 'Music consumption has never been greater, and it's hugely important to our audience,' she said. 'We felt like the time was right to look at the convergence of technology and music fans and the YouTube celebrities who've created this new ecosystem where music is exploding.'

The nuclear plant's operator, Tokyo Electric Power, said Thursday's earthquake had not caused further damage to the facility, adding that workers battling to cool down overheating reactors had temporarily retreated to an on-site quake-resistant shelter.
The latest earthquake caused power outages across a wide area of northern Japan and knocked out several power lines at Onagawa nuclear power station north of Sendai city.
One remaining power line continued to supply electricity as normal, and there have been no reports of abnormal radiation levels in the area.
The plant's spent fuel pools briefly lost cooling capacity but an emergency diesel generator quickly kicked in.
The earthquake struck 30 miles beneath the water off the coast of Sendai, about the same depth and location as the magnitude 9.0 quake on 11 March.
The earthquake hit shortly after 11.30pm local time. The violent shaking lasted about 30 seconds, hurling items on to the floor in the neighbourhood near the city's main railway station.
In Miyagi prefecture motorways were closed and bullet train services were partially suspended.
In Sendai hotel guests and diners filed on to streets, some clutching torches as they began walking home in near-darkness.
Sirens from emergency vehicles filled the air, but more than three hours later there were no reports of major damage.
Police and the fire service officials said they had received numerous calls about fires and gas leaks. NHK, Japan's public broadcaster, said seven people had been injured, two of them seriously.
The earthquake sent the dollar sliding against the yen and wiped out early gains in European stock markets.
The International Atomic Energy Agency said progress was being made to stabilise the Fukushima Daiichi plant, where workers have been injecting nitrogen into a reactor to prevent a potentially explosive build-up of hydrogen gas.
"The situation at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant remains very serious," Denis Flory, head of the IAEA's nuclear safety department, told reporters.
But he added: "There are early signs of recovery in some functions such as electrical power and instrumentation."

A gunman opened fire at a school in Rio de Janeiro, killing at least 12 children, mostly girls aged between 11 and 13, in what Brazilian media described as the worst school massacre in the country's history.
Ten of the victims were shot in the head or chest by the 23-year-old gunman, who was named as Wellington Menezes de Oliveira. Another 18 people were reported to have been injured, several seriously, before Oliveira killed himself.
Witnesses said Oliveira, a former student of the Tasso da Silveira school in Realengo, in western Rio, approached the school with two handguns just before 8.30am and opened fire on two boys on a nearby street. He shot one in the head and one in the arm.
Oliveira is then said to have continued through the school's metal gates and through its front door where a yellow sign reads: "Smile: you are being filmed."
Dorival Porto Rafael, a rubbish collector who was at the school, told Globo online that the gunman had walked into a class where students were studying Portuguese.
"He came into the class saying he was going to give a talk. He went to an eighth-grade class, on the [ground floor], and without saying anything took out a pistol from his bag and started firing," Rafael said. "The police arrived and he tried to go up to the next floor, but when he saw he was surrounded he shot himself in the head."
Authorities said Oliveira's killing spree ended only because of the intervention of a military policeman who managed to shoot him in the leg before he took his own life.
Crowds jeered as the killer's body was carried out of the school and bundled into a yellow morgue van, wrapped in a black plastic bag.
Brazil's president, Dilma Rousseff, has declared three days of national mourning.
Speaking at a hastily arranged press conference on the school's tatty basketball court, the mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, said the tragedy might have been much worse without the policeman's intervention. "God willing, those who are still in danger will not die," he added.
Rio's governor, Sergio Cabral, said Oliveira had been "heavily armed with two guns and a belt filled with professional ammunition".
"I believe it is our duty to … support the families of the young boys and girls killed by this psychopath, this animal," he added.
President Rousseff said: "We must unite in rejecting this act of violence … against defenceless children — children who have lost their lives and their futures."
One witness told the Guardian he had seen between 15 and 20 children dead or seriously wounded.
"It is a massacre, a true massacre," said Roni de Macedo, a firefighter who arrived on the scene shortly after the shooting began and dragged eight seriously injured children from the school.
"There is blood on the walls, blood on the chairs. There are 15 to 20 dead I think," he said, covered in blood from head to toe. "I've never seen anything like this. It's like something in the United States."
Hercilei Antunes, 44, a postman who lives opposite the school and has a daughter there, said: "I saw a load of injured kids, bleeding kids. I saw a dead guy inside. I heard more than 30 shots.
"I heard shots, shots, shots and more shots. I tried to go in, but he shot more and I am not made of steel," he added.
Antunes's porch was blood-stained where he had given first aid to injured children as they fled the school.
With police helicopters hovering overhead, Yvonette Fernandes wept as she looked for her 12-year-old niece, along with scores of other desperate family members. "Where is she? I want to know where she is."
Some students recounted lucky escapes. Sidcley Lopes Garcia, 13, said he had arrived late for class and was outside when he heard the first shots. "I jumped over the wall," he said. "Lots of my friends were injured."
Another 12-year-old student stood outside the school weeping. "I thought I was going to die," she cried. "He shot my friend. My friend is dead."
Twins Brenda and Bianca Rocha Tavares, 13, were inside the school at the time of the shooting and were both hit. Brenda died after being shot in the head, while her sister was shot in the arms and taken to hospital for surgery.
"I was working when I heard about the shooting and came here," Perla Maria dos Reis Paes, their aunt, told O Globo."Unfortunately my niece is dead."

Us Magazine has reported that Taylor Swift is currently dating Garrett Hedlund (“TRON: Legacy,” “Country Strong”), but that the two are taking things slow. The duo has apparently been emailing back and forth for a while and just went out on their first date on April 1, 2011.
According to a source who spoke with the magazine, Taylor is the one who pursued Garrett, saying:
He’s cute – and he’s into country music! [She] likes that he’s a normal guy.”

Three new homeports have been added to the Disney Cruise Line for 2012: New York, Seattle and Galveston. Here are the descriptions of the new cruises from the Disney Parks Blog:
As of May 25, 2012 the Disney Magic will sail 20 cruises from New York with three different itineraries:
- Eight-night Bahamas cruises that include a day at Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay; Nassau, Bahamas; and a stop at Port Canaveral, Florida, giving guests an opportunity to visit the nearby Walt Disney World Resort. As part of this itinerary, you’ll receive a one-day Walt Disney World Park Hopper ticket and roundtrip transportation between the port and resort.
- Five-night cruises up the New England coast that will call at Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Saint John, New Brunswick. In these popular Canadian ports, you can soak in splendid natural vistas, explore historic sites, visit quaint cafés and charming shops and browse Canada’s oldest farmer’s market.
- Three two-night cruises (June 15, July 13 and August 10) that are perfect for families looking for a quick getaway and a sampling of the Disney Cruise Line experience with a day at sea over a weekend.
As of May 28, 2012 the Disney Wonder will have the following itineraries available:
Seven-night voyages from the Port of Seattle to Tracy Arm, Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan, Alaska, as well as Victoria, British Columbia.
Then, as of September 22, 2012 the Disney Magic will set sail with the following:
Seven-night cruises from Galveston to the Western Caribbean. Ports of call include Grand Cayman and Mexico’s Costa Maya and Cozumel.

Good! We're glad to hear they can still be friends…or at least that there's no bad blood between them.
It was a wildcat kind of night at the SoHo House in West Hollywood last night as a bunch of Ashley Tisdale's HSM friends came out to support the release of her new movie, Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure - including former lovers Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens.
When we first heard about their reunion, we were skeptical that all was well, especially when the pair obliged to pose with The Tis, but not with each other. Thankfully, we hear that their reunion was 'friendly' and no drama went down between them on their friend's big night. One source reveals:
'Zac and Vanessa definitely seemed comfortable around each other. They didn't seem affectionate or romantic at all, but they were totally relaxed and friendly.'
Another on-looker observed that the two definitely seemed like they were still 'friends,' and added that the whole crew, which included other HSM costars like Lucas Grabeel and Olesya Rulin, 'stayed late' to catch up with one another.
Looks like they can all just get along. Bet that wouldn't have been the case if V-Hudge had brought her new BF, though!

This is exactly what we were worried about. She just might not be there yet.
Sources close to Britney Spears are reporting that the pop star wants to postpone her Femme Fatale tour this summer, causing her bosses at Sony to go ballastic!
'Britney has told her management that she wants to push back her concert dates because she's not feeling ready. She doesn't feel she has enough time to prepare and has asked management to pull all her dates and postpone everything until later on in the year. She's a perfectionist and wants everything to be better than ever before. She is having to compete with other huge female stars such as RIHANNA and LADY GAGA now so wants to step the show up. Obviously it's gone down like a lead balloon because venues and staff are booked and ready to go. They are trying to talk her round or at least hoping she'll consider going out in September. Either way, there are a lot of meetings going on about how to announce it and handle it. It's a massive headache.'
They continue that plans to start selling the tickets this Saturday have also been scrapped.
Oh boy. And this is why she should have never been pushed out to do this stuff if her heart's just not in it anymore!
As much as we'd love to see a Britney Spears show, we think this might ultimately be for the best. We'd rather have no show at all than a lackluster one that she doesn't even want to do!
Perhaps that Vegas gig might be a better fit, like we recommended!

Vanessa Hudgens and Zac Efron, who ended their five year romance in December, were fine and chummy together at a West Hollywood party on Wednesday. The former lovers, who celebrated the release of mutual HSM co-star Ashley Tisdale's Sharpay's Fabulous Adventures DVD, were ultra comfortable with each other. "Zac and Vanessa definitely seemed comfortable around each other," an observer told Us. "They didn't seem affectionate or romantic at all, but they were totally relaxed and friendly."
Another source added: "They both came out to support Ashley. They knew they would both be there and were fine with it. They really are still friends." Apparently, it was one big High School Musical cheerful get together with lots of the hit show's stars -- and likely lots of excited shrieking and hugs. "It was like a High School Musical reunion!" says the first observer. Oh, geez. At least Vanessa and Zac are acting more mature than their cross-eyed lovers from HSM presumably would have.
