Lady Gaga: 'Without McQueen, I'd Be Naked'

Lady Gaga: 'Without McQueen, I'd Be Naked':

A few days ago, we saw Lady Gaga go au naturel for her "You And I" fashion-film series, and we liked her fresh-faced new look.

Now more images from the shoot by Dutch fashion photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin can be seen in Harper's Bazaar's October issue.

In the cover story, Gaga discusses her affinity for designers like Thierry Mugler and Hussein Chalayan and proclaims that without the late Alexander McQueen's creations, "I'd be naked."

(In her last Bazaar cover story, she revealed that McQueen had been working "through her", which we take to mean... well, we're not really sure what that means ).

Turns out stripping down for the shoot, in which she sports only a skimpy slip, has always come natural. "Even when I was a kid, I used to run around naked with the babysitter, driving her crazy," Gaga reveals to the mag.

And the Lady says she was similarly carefree when she and friends plundered the Versace archive in Milan a few months back:

"We were all running around this warehouse laughing and putting on jackets and shoes. We started crying at one point. I've been dreaming of seeing those outfits my whole life."

Though some of her Versace acquisitions -- particularly a certain black harness -- proved controversial, we'd be pretty excited to have access to vintage Gianni creations too.

Read more from the cover story here.

Madonna's Rep Makes Bizarre Defense Of Hydrangea Hatred

Madonna's Rep Makes Bizarre Defense Of Hydrangea Hatred:

Madonna still hates hydrangeas, and she doesn't care what you think.

Gifted a bouquet by a fan at a press conference at the Venice Film Festival, Madonna was caught on camera saying that she hated the flowers. The video was put up on YouTube and quickly went viral, painting the singer and "W.E." director in a negative light.

Generally, a publicist would look to limit the damage in a case like this, saying something like "Madonna appreciates all the gifts from her fans and didn't mean to offend anyone. She was joking in this instance."

Instead, the Material Girl bucked convention and had her publicist put out this message:

"She's entitled to like any flower she wants and she didn't want to hurt the feeling of the hydrangeas of the world," her rep said (via CNN). "No disrespect to the hydrangeas lovers of the world but she prefers different types of flowers."

However, given that she didn't list which flowers she did like, fans may be weary of gifting her flowers. Potted plants, perhaps?

Jay Weston: New Barbra Streisand Album Is Sublime

Jay Weston: New Barbra Streisand Album Is Sublime:

I have just spent a wonderful two hours listening to the new Barbra Streisand album, What Matters Most, in which she sings the lyrics of Alan and Marilyn Bergman, 12 songs by them which she had not previously recorded, having already recorded 51 songs which they composed. This album yesterday opened at #4 on the Billboard best-seller list, her 31st album to open in the top ten of that industry index... passing The Beatles but not yet topping Sinatra. (The album is dedicated to our mutual friend, the late film director Sydney Pollack, who directed her in The Way We Were.) Again, I am simply stunned at this amazing artist, who phrases her songs in a way which captures the intent of the lyrics beyond belief.

Many years ago (1961, I believe), my best friend at the time, Marty Bregman, brought a slim 18-year-old girl to visit me at my apartment on Central Park West in Manhattan. He said she had just opened at a Greenwich village nightclub, the Bon Soir, and we were going to see her that evening. She was wearing a long knitted coat which she told me she had made herself, and we animatedly discussed our mutual upbringing in a Jewish family in Brooklyn. I recall her saying that she wanted to be an actress... but began singing when she couldn't get work acting. She later said, "I always approach each song as an actress first." She opened for Phyllis Diller, but the moment she opened her mouth and sang, "My Name Is Barbara," a song by Leonard Bernstein, I knew that her singing career would drive her into the pantheon of greatness.

Young lyricists Alan and Marilyn Bergman met her at the same time, at the same nightclub. They were there at the behest of composer Jule Styne, who later went on to write the music for Funny Girl, with lyrics by my close buddy, Bob Merrill (who in the late '70s then wrote the screenplay for my film, W.C. Fields and Me.) I almost worked once with the Bergmans... when I agreed to produce a film which composer Michel Legrande wanted to direct called Blind Love, with a screenplay written by the selfsame Bob Merrill and music composed by the Bergmans. It fell apart after scheduling difficulties.

And I almost worked once with Barbra, when I optioned the film rights to Frank Loesser's glorious Broadway musical, Most Happy Fella, from his widow, Jo Loesser. I signed film director Irv Kershner to do it, he having done the best of the Star Wars movies, The Empire Strikes Back, as well as a film with Barbra. Kersh had a brilliant casting coup lined up, probably the most spectacular I have ever heard. He got Frank Sinatra to agree to play Tony, the vineyard owner who sees and falls in love with the San Francisco hash-house waitress, with Barbra portraying her. Then Kersh convinced Col. Parker to let Elvis Presley play Joe, the foreman of the winery where Barbra comes to wed Tony. The triangle love affair, with that wonderful musical score, almost happened... until Frank refused to play it without his toupee and Kersh would not do it with him wearing it. True story.

I recently ran into Barbra at a screening, and I reminded her that I had produced a film that her husband, James Brolin, starred in called Night of the Juggler, a thriller with a remarkable chase sequence all over New York ending in the tunnels under Central Park. Barbra said, "That is the best movie that James has ever done." I told her about the incident during the filming, when Brolin was running in the park and hurt his foot on a tree stump. I took him to the sports injury doctor at Lennox Hill Hospital and we bandaged him up... but by then the original director called me from the airport to say that he was quitting the film since it would now be a different movie. Two days later I hired Bob Butler to finish the movie... and thanks to executive producers Arnold and Ann Kopelson, it was a huge success in Europe. (Incidentally, Barbra met Brolin at a dinner party given by the Bergmans, when Marilyn seated them together. Obviously something clicked.)

In the album notes for What Matters Most, the Bergmans write: "It was over 50 years ago that we met, 50 years of working together, playing together, sharing holidays, birthdays, quiet times. Some sad, mostly happy. The world has changed around us, but our love for each other is a constant. Clearly she is our muse. Sometimes daughter, sometimes sister. Always beloved friend. The three of us were born in the same Brooklyn hospital years apart. How fortunate we are to be alive at the same time."

And how fortunate we all are to be able to enjoy the stunning talent of this incredible singer. Just listen to her sing, "The Windmills of Your Mind" and you will know what I mean.

Kate Winslet Talks 'Nut Sacks' And Nude Scenes

Kate Winslet Talks 'Nut Sacks' And Nude Scenes:

One thing you'd never expect to hear come from the dainty, proper mouth of "Titanic" heroine Rose: "left nut sack."

Which, more than anything, proves that Kate Winslet is a pretty darn good actress.

The Oscar-winner covers this month's issue of V Magazine, in which she talks about her love for Elizabeth Taylor (and takes some photos in homage to the late star) and discusses that buzzy link bait topic of nude scenes. Turns out, she's not a fan of them (but will do them anyway).

"I hate it! Listen make no mistake, I just get on it," she says about bearing it all on film. "I just go in and say 'Oh f*ck' let's do it.' and Boom. If you complain about it or procrastinate it's not going to go away. Its a profoundly bizarre thing to do. As actors you talk about it all the time. You can literally be tangled in sheets, and you turn to the other actor and say 'What the f*ck are we doing?' Dear Mum, at work today I had so-and-so's left nut sack pressed against my cheek. It's sort of unethical if you think about it in those terms."

In which films, exactly, she has that sort of anatomically-awkward situation going down is a bit uncertain, but nonetheless, it's an interesting admission from one of the industry's top stars. She had a particularly heavy nude scene in her HBO miniseries, "Mildred Pierce," earlier this year, which came after she pledged to stop doing them.

In her new film, at least, Winslet will remain fully clothed -- otherwise, she'd probably. She stars in Stephen Soderbergh's infectious thriller, "Contagion," playing a doctor looking to stop the spread of a mysterious illness that's ravaging the world. Winslet will also star in Roman Polanski's upcoming film, "Carnage," as one in a group of four parents trying to settle a dispute stemming from an after-school fight between their children.

She keeps the clothes for Polanski -- instead, she sheds her lunch in an already buzzed-about vomiting scene.

She's got a thing for grossness, it seems. At least, hypothetically.

"I hope I am shitting myself over the characters I play for the rest of my life," Winslet tells V, in an aspirational forecast for the rest of her career. "Because the day I go 'Oh yeah, that's going to be a piece of pie', why f*cking bother? If you do that, you do not learn. I hope I'm always learning something. So I won an Oscar. It's amazing. I've got that for the rest of my life for a performance I am proud of. It nearly killed me. I am really proud of the film. That's it, moving on."

For more from Winslet, click over to V Magazine.

Not only is Demi a celebrity that her fans look up to, but they look up to her as a model of what good health should be now that she has gotten help for her eating disorder, and if Demi’s smoking cigarettes in the public eye it isn’t the best thing for her young fans to see.
