Stars Prepped for the Globes in Short Dresses This Week

Stars Prepped for the Globes in Short Dresses This Week:

The Golden Globes are this Sunday, which means everyone has flocked to the West Coast for the slew of parties that precede them. Perhaps realizing that the Globes are the first of many events in the next couple of months that call for gowns, ladies like Lena Dunham, Rosamund Pike and Julianne Moore opted for shorter hemlines this week.

Dunham, for whom Sunday also marks the season premiere of her show "Girls," looked the best we've seen her look maybe ever (though we're not sure about the braids) in a black Saint Laurent fit-and-flare dress. Pike's floral Alexander McQueen babydoll frock was super-pretty and we almost can't deal with how good Moore looks in red off-the-shoulder Delpozo. Click through for all of that and more in this week's best dressed.

Beauty tutorials are big on YouTube — a search for "makeup tutorial" and "hair tutorial" yields more than 5 million videos. In this weekly series, we put a mix of popular and under-the-radar tutorials to the test and show you what's best.

The '60s was a great decade for eye makeup. Many of the coolest girls of the decade -- Twiggy, Edie Sedgwick, Brigitte Bardot, Jean Shrimpton -- were big on thick eyeliner, defined eyelid creases, and super dense upper and lower lashes.

Their eye makeup and fake lashes still look fresh and glamorous today. Paris-based makeup artist Sanni Mai shows us how to get the look in the Edie Sedgwick-inspired YouTube tutorial below. The result is perhaps not for everyday wear, but it makes for a good party face. Pair with statement earrings and volumized hair and you're good to go.

Schiaparelli to Show Couture Without a Creative Director

Two months after Schiaparelli announced the departure of creative director Marco Zanini, who had shown only two couture collections for the rebooted fashion house, the label is still without a replacement. But the show must go on.

According to the official calendar, Schiaparelli will show during Couture Week in Paris on Jan. 26. There will be two shows, one for press and another for clients. The collection will be the work of the in-house design team, a rep for the brand confirmed.

So far, Schiaparelli's revival hasn't been easy -- and Zanini seemed to have a hard time striking the right balance between past and present, fantastical and wearable. Will a design team be able to do better? We'll find out soon.

FASHION NEWS : Justin Bieber's Abs Get the Photoshop Treatment for Calvin Klein

Justin Bieber's Abs Get the Photoshop Treatment for Calvin Klein:

On Tuesday, Calvin Klein revealed that Justin Bieber was really and truly the new face of its underwear. "Hooray!" said Beliebers. "Whatever! I still don't get it!" said adults.

"Photoshop!" said Twitter.

That's right: Eagle-eyed fans noticed that the pop star appeared more cut in the ads than he does in real life. The difference is noticeable when you see the campaign videos alongside the campaign images. Don't believe us? Here's a video featuring the Biebs (which truthfully I would like to un-see):

And here are a few images from the campaign:

A side by side comparison:

The kid is clearly in shape, but it does appear the 'shoppers at CK darkened up some of the lines of his abs and pecs to make them appear more muscly. More interesting is the fact that they added more pubic hair. What a world we live in!

The #meminist movement has been telling us for ages that men face the same unrealistic beauty expectations as women. Maybe they were right all along...

Last summer, America's favorite funny lady, Ellen DeGeneres, announced her plans to debut a massive lifestyle brand -- spanning fashion, home goods and specialized pieces just for pets -- that will be her sole focus when her show eventually comes to an end. The collection is called E.D., like the name "Ed," which is what her closest friends, including wife Portia de Rossi, call her.

DeGeneres gave the world a glimpse into the fashion part of her line at the People's Choice Awards in Los Angeles on Wednesday in a a matching set of creme white slacks and bomber jacket. "We actually just made this," she said to E! TV personality Giuliana Rancic before the show. The shirt is from Saint Laurent and the sneakers, a felt pair of Stan Smiths, are from Pharell's recent collaboration with Adidas.

While clothing isn't due until May, a capsule collection of home decor items, called E.D. On Air, went on sale at QVC before the holidays. Prices ranged from $19 to $417 and included artificial Christmas trees, notecards and more.

To build her brand, DeGeneres has teamed up with Chris Burch, ex-husband of Tory Burch and founder of C.Wonder, which just this week announced it was closing all of its stores. “We’re both very, very competitive and we want to break every rule,” said DeGeneres in October to Vogue about Burch. The brand will be available on its own forthcoming site as well at yet-unnamed retail partners and pop-up shops.

Victoria Beckham Reveals Why She Doesn't Smile and How She Really Feels About Her Spice Girls Days

Victoria Beckham Reveals Why She Doesn't Smile and How She Really Feels About Her Spice Girls Days:

In Vogue’s latest installment of its quick-fire interview series, “73 Questions,” the magazine headed to London to visit the one and only Victoria Beckham in her new London retail space. The designer (unsurprisingly) doesn’t crack a smile — though she assures viewers she is smiling on the inside — and she’s a complete delight.

As the cameras follow her through her sprawling store, Beckham is a regular chatterbox; publicly, we don't think we've heard her speak for this long since the "Spice World" movie, which, by the way, she's still waiting for her Outstanding Achievement Award for. In just over five minutes, she reveals charming anecdotes about her kids — who she can't quite keep from playing football in the house — what made her first fall in love with her husband, David Beckham, and, because she know's we're all curious, she spills how she really feels about the Posh Spice ensembles she wore in her 20s.

The real star of the video is Beckham's dry sense of humor, which is predominately on display here. She's apparently quite aware of how she's perceived by the public, but she plays right along  — and it's fantastic. Watch the video in full below.

Justin Bieber worshippers have released fire on their latest target: Lara Stone. On Wednesday, Calvin Klein released a steamy campaign featuring the pair and Beliebers went berserk over the Dutch model touching Biebs/doing her job. Stone reportedly received threatening social media messages from enraged fans saying things like “I’ll kill that girl…” and “Go kill yourself with a cactus.” Um, OK. Despite the crazy, Stone decided to ignore all the negative comments and instead retweeted several positive, supportive messages. Very classy. {Telegraph}

Cara Delevingne’s partnership with DKNY continues with the brand’s latest campaign. The new contributing editor of Love reminded us she has a killer bod while posing in bed for DKNY's 2015 intimates and sleepwear ads. She also manages to make an old payphone look sexy. {Fashion Gone Rogue}

Stuart Vevers’s next challenge in his revamp of Coach comes to a head this Friday at the London Collections: Menswear. The creative director will showcase what will be a first look at his expansion of Coach’s menswear apparel. The American cinema-inspired collection includes lots of shearling outerwear and footwear with all the classic Coach touches: the turnlock, woven whipstitching and the brand’s signature shade of tanned leather. {WWD}

One of the first prominent events of awards season, the People’s Choice Awards, took place Wednesday night, and you could tell celebs were just easing into what is about to be an eight-week long parade of glamorous gowns. Dresses were shorter, simpler and far less voluminous that what we’re going to see at, say, the Oscars next month. But that doesn’t mean stars completely phoned this one in sartorially.

The 10 actresses below are who we think nailed the event the best. From Kat Dennings’s romantic black lace to Bella Thorne’s chic suit to Chloe Moretz’s fashion-y Louis Vuitton number, there was a lot to love. So click through for the People’s Choice Awards’s 10 best dressed attendees.

Victoria's Secret Sales Got a Boost During All Its Fashion Show Marketing

Victoria's Secret Sales Got a Boost During All Its Fashion Show Marketing:

Between the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in early December and its bulked-up holiday advertising — including, this year, a commercial directed by Michael Bay — it's abundantly clear that America's most high-profile lingerie brand takes its marketing very seriously at the tail end of the year.

So, did Victoria's Secret special combination of broadcast events, body oil and Taylor Swift cameos make the good citizens of planet Earth want to buy all of the things? The label's parent company, L Brands, reported Thursday that during the five weeks that ended January 3, comparable store sales did in fact get a 3 percent bump — the same rate of growth as last year. Not bad for a brand that's so widespread in its home market.

As far as finding ways to fuel growth goes, Victoria's Secret really hasn't tapped into its full international potential yet, although taking the fashion show to London this year is a pretty strong statement of interest in capturing that market. At this point it has nine stores operating in the UK; according to Forbes, the seven it had up and running in September were grossing over $100 million.

L Brands also owns Bath & Body works, which actually has more store locations than Victoria's Secret at this point (1,649 relative to 1,141) and saw a bit more growth in December, along with La Senza and Henri Bendel. While L Brands doesn't break out individual companies' sales figures, it's safe to say that Victoria's Secret and Bath & Body Works vastly out-contribute their siblings.

Taken all together, the company raked in $2.2 billion in sales for that five-week period, about $102 million more than last year. And same-store sales grew 5 percent, up from the 2 percent they'd increased between December 2012 and 2013. That's good.

Back in December, we got a sneak peek at the spring 2015 ad campaign for Marc Jacobs, which promised to be buzzworthy (as Jacobs's campaigns are wont to be). Shot by David Sims, it stars nine of the most talked-about models in the game. We now have all the images and it does not disappoint.

Anya Rubik, Kendall Jenner, Karlie Kloss, Joan Smalls, Jessica Stam, Natasha Poly, Issa Lish, Adriana Lima and Anna Ewers make up the Marc Jacobs army -- all cast and styled by Katie Grand just as they were in the show, with messy black bobs and Dr. Scholl's-esque sandals to go with their utilitarian, uniform-like outfits. The "no makeup" makeup look is also there, done by makeup artist Diane Kendal.

Target Causes Outrage by Selling Plus-Size Lilly Pulitzer Range Exclusively Online

Target Causes Outrage by Selling Plus-Size Lilly Pulitzer Range Exclusively Online:

A preview of the Lilly Pulitzer for Target line. Photo: Target
A preview of the Lilly Pulitzer for Target line. Photo: Target
Target's latest designer collaboration with Lilly Pulitzer may not have made a huge splash in the fashion community, but it did cause a social media storm among plus-size consumers — and not for the reason the retailer was probably hoping.

The plus-size community has long complained that designer collaborations -- like those done with Alexander Wang and H&M, Joseph Altuzarra for Target, and Peter Som for Kohl's -- stop at a size 16, so that the Lilly Pulitzer collection would come in plus sizes should have been great news. Unfortunately, that news came with one major caveat:

That Target would test the waters of a plus-size collaboration with Lilly Pulitzer makes perfect sense: Unlike, say, an Altuzarra (which, despite the buzz, was a relative duds), this is a widely recognized brand, especially in middle America. Popular since the 1960s, Lilly Pulitzer is a key part of uniforms ranging from WASPs like Jackie Kennedy to Southern sorority girls. Niche designer fashion this is not.

And, despite the backlash, it also makes sense that Target would offer plus sizes exclusively online. It's a way for the retailer to test the waters of an extended range without having to sacrifice space on store floors. It's not unheard of for retailers making a foray into plus sizes; just recently, Nordstrom began selling Eloquii exclusively online, and may bring the line to stores if it's a success.

So, as is so often urged by plus-size fashion advocates, vote with your dollars. The plus-size market gained 5 percent in sales last year; if that can be translated into sales for Target, perhaps more future collaborations will include extended ranges — maybe even in stores.

Here's What Kate Moss Looks Like Without Photoshop

Here's What Kate Moss Looks Like Without Photoshop:

Photo: Peter Lindbergh for 'Vogue' Italia
Photo: Peter Lindbergh for 'Vogue' Italia
The anti-Photoshop revolution that's budded in the industry as of late is raging on. Following a number of high-profile instances of au naturel fashion shoots (Gisele's makeup-free fall 2014 campaign for Sonia Rykiel and Lara Stone's un-retouched, post-baby nude editorial in the latest issue of System magazine, to name a couple), the digital enhancement that so many photographers heavily rely on is beginning to come under fire not only by consumers — but by fashion insiders as well.

In the January 2015 issue of Vogue Italia, Kate Moss stars in a retro, black and white editorial shot by Peter Lindberg — one that recalls the photographer's iconic supermodel shoots from the '90s. While at first glance it might look like your run-of-the-mill Moss shoot, upon further examination it appears that the photos are very minimally Photoshopped, if they even are at all. The 40-year-old model's makeup and hair are kept very natural, and it seems like there was a conscious decision not to cover up her imperfections (however slight they may be). It's obvious that someone who's made her entire living on her good looks shouldn't need retouching to look great, but it's refreshing that the powers that be in the industry might be starting to believe that, too.
