Home rehab? That’s a first. Remember all of those fiery press releases we’ve been getting from Charlie Sheen’s PR team over the past few days? Each contained the same recurring theme: That the cocaine-addicted star is dedicated to his sobriety and has checked himself into an “unknown rehabilitation facility” for the umpteenth time to get squared away before he snorts himself into an early grave.
Well, it turns out, that undisclosed treatment center…. is actually Charlie’s $8 million Los Angeles home.
A 5-bedroom Mulholland estate isn’t a bad place to spend three months of confinement, eh? We can totally see Sheen riding himself of the taste for The Good Stuff from the comfort of his rec room. (Insert eye-rolling here…)
Access Hollywood insiders say rehabilitation professionals will reportedly visit his gated community in Los Angeles, helping to ensure his privacy. Just days ago, Charlie’s “rehab” was the setting for a wild 36-hour drug and alcohol binge with high-end pornstars that ended in his hospitalization (The official line is: Sheen laughed too hard while watching TV and aggravated a hernia. Guess he couldn’t have been watching Two and a Half Men, could he?) Meanwhile RadarOnline claims that the party-loving father of five is refusing treatment altogether and doesn’t think he needs help.
Sheen’s rep was no help straightening things out. Bombarded with questions from reporters, he released the following statement:
“In compliance with the national health privacy laws (HIPAA), no further information relating to Charlie Sheen’s health or his rehab experience will be released without his written permission.”
Sheen’s current three-month rehab stint is reportedly going to cost CBS up to $250 million, The New York Daily News reports. There are eight episodes left to shoot this season and if the series shuts down permanently, it could mean a revenue loss of millions for the network. Two and a Half Men’s 300 crew members are reportedly worried about losing their pay check; they were allegedly only “partially compensated” when production was interrupted for Sheen’s stint in rehab last February.
The network has released a statement downplaying the financial impact of the halt of television’s most-watched hitcom, which co-stars actor Jon Cryer. They’ll already looking at rescheduling shows to fill in the gap.
“Due to Charlie Sheen’s decision to enter a rehabilitation center CBS, Warner Bros. Television and executive producer Chuck Lorre are placing Two and a Half Men on production hiatus. We are profoundly concerned for his health and well-being, and support his decision,” Lorre said in a statement issued to the press on Monday.
Lorre believes that any decline in ratings can be offset by the reduced programming costs for lost episodes.
“The network is strong and deep with hit series; we’re not reliant on one show. In addition, ‘Two and a Half Men’ has always performed well in repeats, and we have the option of ordering additional episodes of other popular comedies on the network.”
Sheen, 45, recently signed a two year deal — said to be worth $2 million per episode — for Season 8 and 9 of the show.
